Isaac Walton Inn Dec 3-6, 2008. On Wednesday 12-3-08 my sister Laurie and I took the Empire Builder from Seattle to Essex, MT to stay at the Isaac Walton Inn. Early in the afternoon I drove to Seattle to see what our train and power was going to be. Luckily I arrived just as the train was being backed into the coach yard for servicing after being turned on the wye. Amtrak GE's 170/190 were going to lead our 7 car train out of Seattle later that afternoon. I drove all the way west to Whitefish with no eas...

While checking out the BNSF Interbay report this morning on the net found the BNSF 5185 (C30-7) was to arrive on the H-PASBRV this afternoon. Knowing it usually had BN 500000 series cars in its train I did a trace and found it at Byron. (west of Pasco) I decided to wait till it left Easton and would head up to Kanaskat to shoot it. This time the sun was in and out of the clouds but it cleared as the train approached for a good shot. Too bad the C30-7 was facing backwards as the front of it was backlit.

BN 2341 - The Reunion. I had heard that the BNSF 2341 was working the Seattle area so I made a goal to photograph it. To some it may be just an ex-SLSF GP38-2 but to me it has a much more special meaning. The power the day I rode was BN GP38-2's 2341/2344 and it was a great ride, though somewhat somber trip for the crew. They knew changes were in store and they may not be working here much longer. This is the BN 2341 at Paradise the morning of my ride. BN #2341 at Paradise, MT on 16 September 1987. I rec...

Headed for the MRL via the Lakeside Sub. As can be seen the high clouds moved on and the sun was shining brightly now. I then stayed put at the MP 33 grade crossing for the loaded grain train which passed by at 6:45 PM with units 5308/714 up front. BNSF 5315 and CREX 1332 brought up the rear as the trains DPU’s. I then went on to Spokane where I was planning to spend the night before heading on to Montana the following morning.
