Just another WordPress.com site. November 6, 2014. His Illness and How We Got Our Son Back. St Thomas the Apostle should be my patron saint. I’m stubborn (. Quite the news flash, I know. And I’m a doubter – the “you’ve gotta show me” – type. Time and again, God has shown His sense of humor in the ways He’s nudged me to be more open minded. 8220;I’ll sign up on a dating website when I’m 65 and still single or when hell freezes over, whichever comes first.”. I met my husband on CatholicMatch.com. Mark, our...

Home Sweet Hjelmstad: A Little Curb Appeal
http://hjelmstadhome.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-little-curb-appeal.html
Selective Mutism and Autism Journeys. Monday, May 18, 2015. A Little Curb Appeal. We (I) have had a lot of different projects planned for our new home (the garden. Being one of the smaller ones), and yesterday I finished the first major project: some back-breaking landscaping! No really, I'm sitting here confined to the couch with an ice pack because I was stupid and just had. To finish it before another busy week started. But it was worth it. I think. And plant a bunch of pretty border-type stuff. And C...

Home Sweet Hjelmstad: Cape May (I Please Go Back?)
http://hjelmstadhome.blogspot.com/2015/07/cape-may-i-please-go-back_28.html
Selective Mutism and Autism Journeys. Tuesday, July 28, 2015. Cape May (I Please Go Back? So way back when, I posted about our newest family photo shoot. At any rate, here's the post about the wonderful trip we'll pretend I just took, where I tried reallly reallllllllllly hard to choose only a few or ten photos from each adventure instead of dumping all 2,393 of them. The result is a peek at approximately 2% of our wonderful week! Don't worry, I wasn't driving! We wasted no time in hitting the beach.

Discovering holy places and exploring Catholic culture with our little ones. Mission San Juan Capistrano, CA: Saint Joseph’s Day and the Return of the Swallows Celebration. April 19, 2015. June 1, 2015. On the solemnity of St. Joseph, March 19. We went on a little pilgrimage to Mission San Juan Capistrano, via rail. Of course our children loved that we went by train. We began our journey in prayer. And because it was the solemnity of St. Joseph, we prayed the St. Joseph novena en route as well. O Lord, p...

Home Sweet Hjelmstad: August 2015
http://hjelmstadhome.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Selective Mutism and Autism Journeys. Wednesday, August 26, 2015. Time for the yearly There's-No-way-l'm-This-Old punch in the gut post! Two weeks ago Marie and Erik started school- second grade and kindergarten respectively. Today, baby boy Ethan started Pre-K. (He'll do 3 years of preschool since his birthday is after the fall cutoff- all the better, I think). I'm fine, Mom. Get outta here already. Thankfully Ethan and I had gymnastics to get to, which proved a somewhat suitable distraction for me.

Home Sweet Hjelmstad: Sandy Yay Go
http://hjelmstadhome.blogspot.com/2014/03/sandy-yay-go_23.html
Selective Mutism and Autism Journeys. Sunday, March 23, 2014. Last weekend, we embarked on our reward getaway following Peter's two long years of grad school. (If you missed the back story, you can read all about Peter surprising me here. The trip was only two days, but it seemed much longer with everything we did and all the relaxing we accomplished! So we escaped before they could change their minds. Brunch, run, and hanging out at the beach. So happy we could do a cartwheel. With all the time I've spe...

Home Sweet Hjelmstad: Camporee, Round Three
http://hjelmstadhome.blogspot.com/2015/08/camporee-round-three.html
Selective Mutism and Autism Journeys. Friday, August 14, 2015. Camporee, Round Three. About three weeks ago we went on our first and only camping trip of The Year of the Disappearing Summer. [Can we take a moment to try and absorb the fact that school started this week? Like we're already in. This was our third such trip with our church, but this year was a little different. In past years we've always had a group campground reserved at Lake Dillon. It was also a better setup for community; there was a go...

Motherhood is hard.

Taking on Life's Adventures. August 20, 2015. This is just some thoughts I’ve needed to get off my chest. Mini rant about to ensue…). No one really tells you that being a mom is hard. Sure they tell you that you will be sleep deprived, and unable to remember things, and that your baby will rule your days at least in the beginning, but they don’t really say that it is going to feel like an insurmountable hardship that you just want to walk away from sometimes. Or maybe that’s just how I see it. You sound ...

Home Sweet Hjelmstad: A Splish Splash Birthday Bash!
http://hjelmstadhome.blogspot.com/2012/08/a-splish-splash-birthday-bash.html
Selective Mutism and Autism Journeys. Friday, August 17, 2012. A Splish Splash Birthday Bash! Two weeks ago we celebrated Little Miss Four-Year-Old in summer style with a Splish Splash Birthday Bash! And I'm realizing as I write this that I already have to say "two weeks ago." But better late than never, right? We set up the kiddie pools in the backyard, told the other kiddos to bring their swimsuits, and sat back and watched everyone. Dump buckets of water on each others' heads. From Betty Crocker Kitch...
