Enter Winston Weathers, whose article Teaching Style: A Possible Anatomy actually discusses practical applications of rhetorical strategies in the classroom. Service learning and the paper problem. October 5, 2011. One response ». October 6, 2011 at 9:39 am. Teaching students to understand the complex power structures of the world is a difficult task. Giving them tools to navigate them with compassion instead of inadvertent harm or malicious intent is even more difficult. These are not things that a freshman comp class should try to achieve. A sophomore level class about community-service learning would be excellent, however. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

September 7, 2011. For the most part, I find that Elbow’s approach is a really well-balanced composition pedagogy. One thing I still don’t quite agree with, however, is his claim that writer-based prose can be. Than reader-based prose (338). I think it all depends on what it is you are writing. In poetry and creative writing, writer-based prose could quite possibly be far more effective. But an academic paper must include both aspects, I think, in order to be successful. Prewriting takes over the world.

In Diversity, Ideology, and Teaching Writing, Maxine Hairston writes I vigorously object to the contention that [composition teachers] have a right even a. In fact, she evens mentions using cultural units in her classes as ways of getting her students to write about their own multicultural identities. So, come on over to the dark side, Hairston. 7040 On My Mind. After the students experienced both versions of peer review, most, if not all, students agreed that the version my lead teacher introduced (where students read their papers aloud to two other members who then discuss the paper between themselves to provide feedback) was the most helpful. Considering that this version calls for more direct and active collaboration, this is not surprising. Howard, Rebecca Moore. Collaborative Pedagogy. University Press, 2001. 54-70. Print. Students Are Practically Perfect in Every Way… →. October 5, 2011 · 21:38. You’ll do it because I say so. Are you kidding me? Was an actual statement I made in my freshman year of undergraduate. I was not well liked by that professor after that. But I showed up, my grade depended on it. I grumbled through the day and came out on the other side not having learned a lick from it except how to be resentful. And what good is it if it only provides you a grade in the class? 4 responses to “. Fill in your deta...
