The Great Out Doors with Ranger Jack. Ranger Jack’s Alaskan Adventure 2013. July 20 – Hike to Summit of Mt. Washburn. August 15, 2014. Today is the big day, hike to the summit of Mt. Washburn, and 40th anniversary celebration. From the trailhead, we begin our steady climb to the top of the mountain. We’re headed for the fire station at the Summit. On the way we encounter snow on the trail. It’s July 20, and there is still snow on the mountain. The trail is steep. It is a journey back in geologic time.

The body of the young man missing since Aug 11, has been recovered. Late Friday searchers spotted what the thought was a submerged body pinned to a large rock in a very steep and dangerous section of the Yellowstone River, about 1/4 mile downstream from where the young man was last seen.
