Rick and Jen's Blog: Sailboat Bob Birthday Bash!

http://www.rickandjensblog.blogspot.com/2015/04/sailboat-bob-birthday-bash.html

Rick and Jen's Blog. Monday, April 27, 2015. Sailboat Bob Birthday Bash! Sailboat Bob made a speed run over to the bay from Sitka in the not too distant past with a load of birthday revelers. We had a great weekend hiking, kayaking, and hot springing in the rain! Imported chefs preparing a breakfast feast. (Gala party hats required). Here's Blain's plate- I guess we should have made enough for everybody! Good thing we fed them before the crowd turned on us! Celebrating after a successful descent!

Rick and Jen's Blog: April 2015

http://www.rickandjensblog.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Rick and Jen's Blog. Monday, April 27, 2015. We see lots of waterfowl all winter, but the spring has brought much more bird activity ashore. Fox Sparrow (we think). There has been a solitary sea otter just outside the bay for the last couple of years. The good news is that the sea otters are expanding their territory and population. The bad news is that they eat a lot of crab! Waiting for a treat after the Easter Performance! Now- this is a treat! Taking the lights down. Just hanging out on the dock.

Rick and Jen's Blog: December 2014

http://www.rickandjensblog.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html

Rick and Jen's Blog. Saturday, December 27, 2014. Twas the Week Before Christmas. It's the week before Christmas and all through the sky, the clouds have now parted and the rain it has lightened. Note: There's still no snow on the ground, so it looks like Ma and Pa will be having our first non-white Christmas! With no snow to shovel, we've just been hanging out around the lodge. Coming back from the townsite with Christmas goodies from Keith and Jackie. Cleaning out the top section. This is a "volunteer"...

Rick and Jen's Blog: February 2013

http://www.rickandjensblog.blogspot.com/2013_02_01_archive.html

Rick and Jen's Blog. Monday, February 11, 2013. Visitors, a Road Trip, and Kayaking in the Bay. Kayaking in Warm Springs Bay. We had a great day last week to take a little paddle in the kayaks- the rain stopped, the sun came out (almost), and there was no wind. We paddled up to the townsite- you can see Baranof Falls and some of the cabins in "town" straight ahead. Baranof Falls runs harder in the summer, but will all the rain we've had this winter, it still has a pretty healthy flow. A perfect day final...

Rick and Jen's Blog: May 2013

http://www.rickandjensblog.blogspot.com/2013_05_01_archive.html

Rick and Jen's Blog. Thursday, May 2, 2013. Every spring, we wait for the arrival of our Rufus Hummingbirds. These birds migrate all the way from Mexico and Florida. We have more Rufus Hummingbirds working the feeders on the deck this year than we have ever had before! We saw our first hummingbird on April 4. He buzzed the window where the feeder usually is, so we dropped everything and made up some food and put the feeder out as soon as we could! Feeding on a snowy morning. Topping up before bed time!

. . . CABIN NOTES: The Week of the 4th

http://cabinnotesatsea.blogspot.com/2012/07/week-of-4th.html

Life on the Water. Sunday, July 8, 2012. The Week of the 4th. Oh what a Fourth of July week we had! As with much of the eastern seaboard, we were having a heat wave, a tropical heat wave. Aren't you glad you cannot hear me croon? Last weekend, our friends Pat and Judy went to sleep late due to the heat and humidity on the Chesapeake. They woke early (0100) due to the 50 knot straight line winds that began to drag their anchor. It was the same storm that damaged the DC area. Courtesy Carol E.). Note teal ...

. . . CABIN NOTES: Tidbits

http://cabinnotesatsea.blogspot.com/2012/06/tidbits.html

Life on the Water. Sunday, June 24, 2012. Summer is not a time for lengthy projects. It is a time to get done what needs doing with as small a burst of energy as possible. Even so, effort equals extreme sweat. Time for the pool. And meals that are more hors d'oeuvres than entrees. In short, a season of tidbits all around. When Steve and Lynn visited on Celebration. Sundowner edibles aboard Celebration. The set of the sails illustrates how unpredictable the wind. Thunderstorm passes the point. Blackwater ...

. . . CABIN NOTES: Sail Blog: The Beginning

http://cabinnotesatsea.blogspot.com/2011/06/sail-blog-beginning-060311.html

Life on the Water. Saturday, June 4, 2011. Sail Blog: The Beginning. Once, when I was between colleges, I decided I needed to buy a Hobie 16 catamaran. I persuaded my father to go in for half the cost even though he had never sailed. We picked up our new boat behind Marsh’s Surf Shop on the causeway from Morehead City to Atlantic Beach. The folks at Marsh’s launched the boat in the canal behind the shop. What was I thinking? June 6, 2011 at 8:42 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Week of the 4th.

. . . CABIN NOTES: Post-Irene Post

http://cabinnotesatsea.blogspot.com/2011/09/post-irene-post.html

Life on the Water. Saturday, September 3, 2011. Since my last post, we have moved. Back to her slip in Oriental Harbor Marina, one of the few still intact on A Dock, mainly to be closer to our friends. None of the docks have power nor will they for some weeks as the surge entirely submerged the power pylons. We watched the Towboat US crew raise. Free would aim toward the slip adjacent to ours, then swiftly accelerate. If the captain had not been aimed away from us when the tow lines snapped, he would...

Life on the Water. Saturday, November 19, 2011. Tony and Jenny on. Tony and Jenny are British. She hails from the south, he from the north. While the differences in the UK are different from our regional differences in the US, the dynamic is similar. Tony bought. Personally, I lusted after the granny bars with thole pins and the boom gallows, original to. But practical additions to any boat. Was re-powered with a Beta that purrs softly when turned on. After a few months in Whittaker Creek, they moved...

. . . CABIN NOTES: The End

http://cabinnotesatsea.blogspot.com/2015/02/the-end.html

Life on the Water. Thursday, February 12, 2015. Rather than string along with weak tales from the land, I have decided to mothball the blog as it was before we moved ashore. Nature as surrounded by it. It has been great fun to write for the past four years because I found good topics to feed the posts. It does not seem that way so much now, and most of my readers seem to mine the archives. I hope we sail some this year and, if we do, I will likely write new posts. March 22, 2015 at 7:31 PM.

. . . CABIN NOTES: Still Summer, Still Hot

http://cabinnotesatsea.blogspot.com/2014/09/still-summer-still-hot.html

Life on the Water. Friday, September 5, 2014. Still Summer, Still Hot. August and Labor Day are behind us, but it remains stunningly hot. And humid. Worse than any stretch of days during the summer months just past. Occasional breezes, but not consistent enough to keep us cool. Noted in a previous post. Near Edward, a blink of a crossroad west of Aurora, itself not much more than a blink of a town that has left its best days behind, but still boasts the Aurora Fossil Museum. A shadow to block the sun?

. . . CABIN NOTES: A Tribute to writer Randy Wayne White

http://cabinnotesatsea.blogspot.com/2013/06/a-tribute-to-writer-randy-wayne-white.html

Life on the Water. Sunday, June 2, 2013. A Tribute to writer Randy Wayne White. I just finished reading Randy Wayne White's latest novel, Night Moves. Twentieth in his Doc Ford series. I think it is his best. What is the plot of this one? I stumbled across one of his novels, not his best I now know, then backtracked to start at the beginning. Not essential, but a sensible way to read his work. Try RWW if you like saltwater and good tales well told. I cannot read enough of his work. June 3, 2013 at 2:52 PM.

http://cabinnotesatsea.blogspot.com/2012/04/bear-island.html

Life on the Water. Sunday, April 29, 2012. Blazing paddle over green water. Paddling with Lennon (Cameron). East end bluff and tidal slough. Camp at base of dunes. Sand bowl in the interior dunes. Cactus on the island. Cameron impaled above his achilles. Burrfish, a kind of puffer. Fiddler crab in cap. Close-up of fiddler claw. Things to stay the same. May 3, 2012 at 9:05 AM. Sounds like a terrific trip (except for the no-see-ums and lack of propane). May 4, 2012 at 3:04 PM. May 4, 2012 at 4:54 PM. Camer...

. . . CABIN NOTES: Rambling About

http://cabinnotesatsea.blogspot.com/2014/01/rambling-about.html

Life on the Water. Monday, January 20, 2014. In spite of weekly frigid temps, we took our annual trip to the beach for our anniversary. Sunny, windy (of course) and pretty cold. Cameron tried out a new (old) film camera he picked up cheap. Beth squeezed sand between her toes, and I watched the birds and waves. Looking across rough water of Beaufort Inlet to Cape Lookout Lighthouse. Channel buoy right of center; lighthouse farther right). Note double faintly to left of main rainbow. Surrounded by woods on...

Rick and Jess Grace. Grace be with you. Skip to primary content. Skip to secondary content. June 24, 2014. I apologize. We’re terrible bloggers. That will change. The majority of the few blog posts we have published have been along the lines of how we’re too busy to blog. This is valid, because we probably are TOO busy. Who isn’t? However, looking back at the past few years I can see that busy-ness has been part of my learning process. I’ve been working part-time with a local church for over a year...

Sunday, January 4, 2015. Forgive or not to forgive that is the question (well the question that has been on my mind a lot lately). I have been seriously struggling with what it actually takes to forgive someone. in mind my the only way to forgive someone is if they apologized to me. it has become so abundantly clear that my way isn't the right way. especially, if i want to move on and be a happier person. while studying forgiveness, i came across this tidbit from Spencer W. Kimball. I need to be. Before ...
