Sand in my teacup. The Doesn’t Make Sense File. I am opening up a This does not make sense file. These are the first things going in:. 1 When you show a G rated film the trailer should also be G rated. Otherwise you scare the little children. 3 When someone orders a latte or a cappuccino or even a frozen caramel macciato there is no need to ask if they would like an extra shot, hazelnut syrup or a slice of cheese cake. If we wanted those items we would have asked for them. 7 Sitting in a car that doesn’t...

Sand in my teacup. From the teacher file: beauty and diamonds. Sometimes after Parent-Teacher conferences I am stuck with two thoughts. How do they manage to lift up that hand, let alone drive here with that enormous diamond sitting on that finger? I wanted to offer to take it off her when she reached for a pen to write some note, but in the end she managed to lift her hand and throw the glint of the diamond straight into my eye. No wonder they need the diamonds to shine. July 4, 2012. Next Post ».

Sand in my teacup. All Arab women cover their head. This is not true. Actually the majority of my students do not cover their heads but the majority of the mothers do. So it seems to be something they do later, around the time they marry. But it is also quite normal to meet women with bare heads. There are a lot of Syrian and Lebanese here and they don’t all cover up. They wear pajamas under their Abayas. There is no dating. Bikinis in the Maldives. Often women in full Abaya and veil will do the danc...

Sunday, January 5, 2014. 2014, I welcome you! 2013 has been a bit of a roller coaster with highs and lows, but this year is going to be about balance. To be more balanced when it comes to food and to do a range of exercise, i.e to bring back yoga into my life! What I don't need so much of is technology. Family and friends know I will email with news of adventures or running photos (! Thank you for commenting o...

Africa, My Africa: Don't Quote Me
http://robynsafricanadventures.blogspot.com/p/dont-quote-me.html
This quote has stayed with me. After hearing this unknown quote, from my friend Bob, more than two years later I came across it by chance.and I still love it! So appropriate for my move here! It's because of love. Nobody ever moves to Africa for any other reason than that. It doesn't have to be a woman or a man. It's because of love itself. But I've just learned this. This answer is the gift I've just been blessed with. Rules of the Wild, Francesca Marciano. The sun sets over Africa. Other quotes I love:.

Africa, My Africa: August 2013
http://robynsafricanadventures.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 28, 2013. This seems like a l.o.n.g time ago already! I'm back in Kuwait and back at work. All that green hurts my eyes now. Sunday, August 25, 2013. The Dog Days Are Over. There is nowhere more beautiful than home. The mornings and the nights are generally the best time of day for clear skies and little rain. At night the sky is ever changing in colour, purples to pink, delighting those shepherds. Then mum and I went on a shellfish cookery course at Nick Nairn's cook school, which was ...

Africa, My Africa: Currently - December 2013
http://robynsafricanadventures.blogspot.com/2013/12/currently-december-2013.html
Saturday, December 14, 2013. Currently - December 2013. Old copies of Runner's World magazines. I just want to flick pages or read an article in bed, hoping by reading about running I'll feel better prepared about my upcoming marathon. Usually though the articles have the opposite effect and I have butterflies in my tummy as I try to fall asleep. Mad Men series 6. Amazing! I think it is better than the last couple. I am still constantly swinging between love and hate for Don Draper. Did I just say that!

Africa, My Africa: Around the World in a Day - Uganda
http://robynsafricanadventures.blogspot.com/2011/03/around-world-in-day-uganda.html
Saturday, March 19, 2011. Around the World in a Day - Uganda. The mosque's call to prayer has been my time keeper for many years. I still hear it, a quieter version, here in Kampala. I'm glad for that. There is something calming and reassuring about hearing the imam, where as the loud and passionate pastor from the many nearby churches often sounds quite frightening. My post today is a bit about ex-pat life in Uganda. Sorry if it jumps around a bit, I hope that you still enjoy the party! A safari truck i...

Africa, My Africa: I dream of Africa
http://robynsafricanadventures.blogspot.com/p/i-dream-of-africa.html
I dream of Africa. A short story of how I ended up in Uganda, the pearl of Africa. That is when I began dreaming of Africa…just took me a few years to get here! In Kuwait I met many friends; Bob, Brian, Colin, then of course Jane and Sven, who all talked so fondly of their lives in East Africa, most of them were more sure than me that I would one day be here; which made me more determined to make my African dreams a reality. They were sure that I would love it…and I DO! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Monday, July 29, 2013. A postcard from BC, Canada. Having an amazing time in BC. The weather has been fantastic since I arrived. I loved exploring Vancouver Island with my friend Heather- saw bears galore, bear cubs, a whale, seals, sea lions and caught my first salmon (I threw it back after a photo! A truly Canadian experience. My friends, Kari and Ed, got married and we celebrated for 3 days on a beautiful acreage. I'm so pleased I was able to be there with them. Wish you were here!
