March 7, 2014. March 7, 2014. Singapore is in the grips of it’s longest dry spell since 1869 ( Asia One, 4 March. Units Being called upon to put them out. Worryingly, the conservation areas are starting to suffer too with a bush fire breaking out at MacRitchie Reservoir. The forecast is for the dry spell to continue unabated as malls and water play areas being asked to turn their water off. Crisp brown leaves, framed by their barely living counterparts. Bedouin Mama: Cold
http://www.bedu-mama.com/2014/12/cold.html
A nomad mother in Singapore. Thursday, 11 December 2014. 8216;Mama, I’m cold,’ Jasmijn shivered this morning at breakfast, hugging her bare arms to her T-shirted chest. ‘I want a jumper.’. Admittedly, these singularly rainy weeks have left the Singapore weather fresher and cooler than average. Still, average being hot and sweaty, the temperature hasn’t dropped much below twenty-eight degrees. Twenty-five at night, maybe. I don’t miss any of that. I love our ‘flip-flops on everyone, we are...The tropics s...

Bedouin Mama: Creating my own kraut
http://www.bedu-mama.com/2014/11/creating-kraut.html
A nomad mother in Singapore. Thursday, 13 November 2014. Creating my own kraut. I was not sure whether the hot and humid Singapore weather was going to be a blessing or a threat when it comes to home fermenting, but I assumed there was only one way to find out: I bought a large head of cabbage. Mine was, but it still took copious amounts of applemoes (applesauce) to convince the kids of the edibility of Mama’s newest project. Mama eats her kraut raw, is loving it, and has already started on he next proje...

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi & Beyond : Wazipur monument complex
http://www.delhitales.com/2016/08/wazipur-monument-complex.html
Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi and Beyond. Friday, 19 August 2016. In my defense you would have never known there was anything here, hidden behind RK Puram flats and a small well kept park, we even missed the turning off and reversed a short distance backwards along the main road, yes.I shrivelled in embarrassment .again! Sadly though all unnamed and with no knowledge of who they were built for. Back up across the grass to where we started, sitting behind the gurudwara, is quite a large rubble masonary wal...

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi & Beyond : July 2016
http://www.delhitales.com/2016_07_01_archive.html
Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi and Beyond. Wednesday, 13 July 2016. Its been a month since my last post and I almost feel (if I were Catholic) a confession is due - Forgive me my sins! But enough of my excuses! Whilst our guests were with us they had, on their list, the Lotus Temple, a place I had on mine that we could all tick off together. The temple stands at 40 metres in height and the white shines out across the Delhi skyline. The lotus is a sacred flower in India and this lotus inspired building was ...

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi & Beyond : An experience TOO be missed!
http://www.delhitales.com/2016/04/an-experience-too-be-missed.html
Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi and Beyond. Thursday, 7 April 2016. An experience TOO be missed! Well it's been over a week since I went exploring. No, Delhi Tales has not gone AWOL but instead I've been 'confined to Barracks' but yes, even though I've been climbing the walls, trying to dig an escape tunnel, planning my 'Great Escape' although it wouldn't be Steves Triumph but more likely a Royal Enfield which I ride off into the distance on. Next week I'm determined to visit Old Fort (Purana Qila) although...

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi & Beyond : Namaste Delhi
http://www.delhitales.com/2016/02/namaste-delhi.html
Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi and Beyond. Sunday, 21 February 2016. How do I write this first blog post? Where shall I start? In what direction will I take it? Do I just talk about the move, or the area, the food, the slums, the traffic.or,or,or. As I'm writing this the doorbell has just gone and its Saleem, our appartment guard, bringing me the daily newspaper. Saleem is a 'sweet young thing' from the NE of India, so quiet I'm not sure if he's the best security guard there could be! I have to say the che...

Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi & Beyond : April 2016
http://www.delhitales.com/2016_04_01_archive.html
Delhi Tales. Exploring Delhi and Beyond. Thursday, 14 April 2016. Navaratri, Ram Navami and a happy New Year! Oh I wish I had studied more at senior school! Well I did, but, when it came to my O Levels and completing my Religious Studies, which were on various different religions, Hinduism and all the many, many gods and goddesses being a major portion, there were just too many to remember and I failed miserably (in fact it was the one O Level my mother actually got! If I've understood correctly it's als...
