I have been fundraising for months: selling coupon cards and jewelry, hosting an Evening of Awesome, and a dinner at Mongolian Barbecue. I have raised a little over 400 dollars, and need to raise about 400 more. I am asking you for a donation. All the money goes towards my transportation, housing, food, and work supplies. Detroit 2012 (and beyond). Food, Art, and Social Justice: Carpe diem! Happy Holidays from Norbert. January 15, 2014. Last semester I took an African-American literature class. At the end of the class I wrote a research paper on the topic of black feminism. I think it turned out pretty well. Here are some selected segments of that paper. There are in-text citations and my sources are at the end of the post. It would be easy if there was one person we could point to as the cause for all these problems....

Detroit 2012 (and beyond). Food, Art, and Social Justice: Carpe diem! In February of 2012, I went on a service learning trip to New Orleans with Dedicated to Make a Change. We did many things including making a raised garden bed, making and painting doors for the bathroom stalls, and meeting a Mardi Gras Indian. I kept a journal and took a lot of photos. The posts below are almost word-for-word what I wrote in my journal. I’m Home(first New Orleans post). Saturday and Sunday(second New Orleans post).

Smile In Your Liver. Tonight I gave my body a rest from 31 Days of Yoga. Too many hours spent yoga-ing and packing over the past couple of nights have made me exhausted! What better way to sit back and relax than to see Eat Pray Love. I absolutely loved Elizabeth Gilbert’s novel, so it was a treat to see all the details fleshed out in film. Italy, India, and Bali (and don’t forget Manhattan :D) are such beautiful places. I felt like I was on vacation for two hours😀. Smile out loud (in your liver),.

At a leadership workshop I attended recently, we did an exercise in which I had to introduce myself to a group of people with my name and with something that is true about who I am. Here’s what I said: Hi, my name is Rachel and. I am really happy. Today I woke up and realized that I should not feel guilty about my happiness. It is something that I’ve worked. Hard to find and that I work. Hard to keep. Mainly, though, happiness is not something to hide because it is. Important to share with others. Better...

Marathon Fever | Smile Out Loud

Today is the NYC Marathon. For the last month, I have seen billboards, posters, and cut-outs of runners–strong, fierce, AMAZING runners. Photo: Lolo Jones. Because she is awesome :D). Coincidently–ok, probably. Coincidently– I started running again. It’s been a while (ok, a. On most days, I run along the Hudson River. Granted, there’s a little more sweat than I’d expect on a vacation…😀. Photo: Hilary Swank. Being Fabulous.). Anyway, back to the marathon! On the course in Central Park. Will pass by me:.

I Will Run a Marathon. Well, I told you that I had marathon fever, didn’t I? Then again, who wouldn’t have marathon fever after seeing the incredible energy, from the runners and the crowds, at the NYC Marathon on Sunday? I watched from 90th Street and Fifth Avenue. Then, I crossed Central Park to watch near the finish line, without having a ticket– no easy feat, let me tell you! Of course, I forgot my camera, so the photos above are from my phone. Excuse the poor quality.}. Congrats to all who ran!

A trying to be healthy living blog. New Blog is Live! By Leila (spinach and skittles). I’ve had my finger hovering over the publish button for almost a week now! I don’t know why I’m so nervous about the release of my new blog. Probably my type-A tendencies. My inner perfectionist cringes because everything isn’t exactly the way I want it. And hello to my new adventure:. Please update your bloglovin. To add my new blog. I hope you enjoy the new look and format as much as I do! Where did the weekend go?
