Designing the future of living and learning at Stanford
About — Stanford 2025
http://www.stanford2025.com/about
The @Stanford Project, which ultimately generated the Stanford2025 exhibit and website you’re reading now, was sparked at the d.school in Spring 2013. Given the contemporary emphasis being placed on experimentation with online learning, we wondered what interesting changes were also starting to happen in the in-person, physical learning environment? To explore this question further, the project was funded by Dean of the School of Engineering, Jim Plummer. The @Stanford Core Team. Office of the Vice Provo...
Open Loop University — Stanford 2025
http://www.stanford2025.com/open-loop-university
We look back from 2100 at the era when Stanford brought an end to a society of alumni in favor of lifetime learning. Take a look at archival footage recovered from the future to discover how Stanford was transformed by Open Loop University. Much like the even older myth of Athena born in full armor, springing from the head of Zeus. There were early signs that a change was needed. Until its quasquicentennial in 2016, students applied for admission to Stanford around the age of 17, were admitted and conduc...

Axis Flip — Stanford 2025
http://www.stanford2025.com/axis-flip
A view from 2100 of the era in which Stanford flipped the axes of knowledge and competency. Take a look into archival footage returned from the future to discover how the university model was turned over by Axis Flip. It was called the Crime of the Century. Ten days after the great 1906 earthquake, many of Stanford’s historic buildings were piles of rubble. The wreckage revealed that contractors had taken unacceptable construction shortcuts. The University resolved that Stanford students would. In 2012, ...
Purpose Learning — Stanford 2025
http://www.stanford2025.com/purpose-learning
A look back from 2100 to the era when Stanford students began declaring missions, not majors. Take a peek into archival footage brought from the future to discover how the learning paths were transformed by Purpose Learning. Special thanks to Victor Saad and Experience Institute for permission to use their video footage and for being an inspirational project partner. Consistently outpaced traditional methods in rates of student retention and student engagement. Following the boom and bust cycle of th...

Success YOUR way – with or without college. Category: Employment and Jobs. Boycotting College vs. Changing College. 16 October, 2014. 22 October, 2014. We can talk all we want to about how college should stop doing this and start doing that, or how it just should not be a requirement, etc. etc. We have been talking all we want to for years now. Are we changing anything yet? By Matt Walsh, and “4 Radical Ideas for Reinventing College”. In the first article. This would be a fine and dandy notion to enterta...

This entry was posted in Insights. May 14, 2014. As part of the @Stanford project. That culminated with the Stanford 2025. Event, I re-imagined my life journey in a looping rather than a linear structure. The diagrams in this post became part of the Stanford 2025 exhibit, explaining and supplementing the looping mechanism behind the Open Loop University. So what unique value does the color coding add? Now, the teaching assistant can improve as a teaching assistant, but there is no clear career-benefiting...

Stanford 4 Modesto - Airport District. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. I Ain’t Goin’ Out Like No Punk, Bitch. I stood at the graveside and spoke. I can’t remember exactly what I said, but it was certainly not what I meant to say. What I meant to say was that this whole situation has brought me to ask no more than one question, simply this – “Why can’t I catch a fuckin’ break? That’s right faggots. How do you like me now? Step back in time to 1965 in Stanford, Worcestershire. John Lane is well known for his love of local history so it will be no surprise to discover that John has been custodian of a historical document which he believes should be available for everyone to enjoy. The document is in the form of a large but fragile scrapbook assembled in 1965 by people living in the vicinity of Stanford Bridge describing their everyday lives in essays, pictures and memorabilia. The whole book is reproduced here.
