the baker upstairs: cheesy zucchini rice
http://www.thebakerupstairs.com/2013/10/cheesy-zucchini-rice.html
As side dishes go, this cheesy zucchini rice is pretty much perfect! Adapted from Mel's Kitchen Cafe. 1 cup white rice. 2 cups chicken broth. 1 medium or 2 small zucchini, grated (about 2 cups). 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese. 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder. 1 teaspoon salt pepper to taste. Hungry for more from The Baker Upstairs? October 8, 2013 at 1:15 PM. What a great way to sneak veggies in! April 1, 2014 at 4:13 PM. If you are using this to sneek in veggys i would suggest use a little less zucchini.
the baker upstairs: flaky buttermilk biscuits
http://www.thebakerupstairs.com/2014/11/flaky-buttermilk-biscuits.html
I served these with some butternut squash soup (recipe coming soon) and fresh homemade peach jam. They are pretty much just biscuit perfection! 3 teaspoons baking powder. 1/2 cup butter, cut into pieces. Hungry for more from The Baker Upstairs? November 10, 2014 at 8:16 PM. These look fantastic. I cant wait to make them. January 30, 2015 at 8:00 PM. What is the yield? February 11, 2015 at 2:30 PM. It depends on how big you cut them. I usually get 10-12 good sized biscuits. March 14, 2015 at 5:41 PM.
the baker upstairs: chocolate zucchini cake
http://www.thebakerupstairs.com/2013/08/chocolate-zucchini-cake.html
I love it pretty much any way you can make it. sautéed, in pasta, on pizza, in soup. it's always delicious! One of my favorite ways to enjoy it, though, is in dessert form. I love how it makes everything so moist, and I also love that my kids are getting a little dose of vegetables in with their treats. :). This particular cake is pretty awesome, with two whole cups of grated zucchini! This is a magic cake! When you baked it, the zucchini disappeared! Adapted from Lulu the Baker. 1 1/2 cups sugar. I just...
the baker upstairs: carmelitas!
http://www.thebakerupstairs.com/2012/11/carmelitas.html
I saw these on Pinterest a few months ago with the caption "carmelitas: the best cookie you will ever make" and I scoffed a little. I mean, really, how can you say that any cookie is "the best"? And then I made them, and I realized why. Because they really are the very best cookies I've ever made! Sure, they're very rich, and not something I could make every day, or even more than a couple of times every year, but they are amazing! They're super easy to make! 1/2 cup heavy cream. 3/4 cup butter, melted.
the baker upstairs: strawberry crumb bars
http://www.thebakerupstairs.com/2014/04/strawberry-crumb-bars.html
I have the most awesome spring dessert to share today! These strawberry crumb bars are to die for! I bought a case of strawberries from the food co-op last week and since then I've been using them any way I can. I've stocked up on freezer jam. And I have some sliced strawberries waiting in the freezer to use for smoothies. These strawberry crumb bars are my very favorite use of them so far, though! These bars are a variation on the blueberry crumb bars. 1 teaspoon baking powder. 1 egg, beaten. These are ...

Duce Family: November 2011
http://theducefamily.blogspot.com/2011_11_01_archive.html
Thursday, November 24, 2011. I can't be the only one. About 3 months ago I got a phone call at 3:30am. The call came on my cell since Brad was working in the Yukon. Anyway, it was my landlord asking me if I had water in my basement. I completely zoned out and kept thinking, "are you kidding me? You call me at 3:30am to check that? I'm pretty sure a tear or two slid down my cheek in the process. I sat down and laughed at my day again. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Weekly Menu Plan #77. Homemade White Hot Ch...
Team Ward: More Hawaii
http://rogueandthewife.blogspot.com/2012/07/more-hawaii.html
Friday, July 27, 2012. We were again blessed with beautiful weather, we snorkeled for hours then laid on the beach to dry off-pure bliss. There were a lot of fishes, the water was a little dusty but we still had tons of fun. Later that night we went to dinner and walked on the beach to watch the sunset. As we were getting back to our hotel, there were fireworks at the hotel across from we were able to watch from our balcony-how convenient. Molokini Bay and Turtle Bay. And cool yellow ones. Team Ward: Hawaii, part 2
http://rogueandthewife.blogspot.com/2012/07/hawaii-part-2.html
Friday, July 6, 2012. Hawaii, part 2. The next day we went up to the north shore to a place called shark's cove for some snorkeling. It was a great day with perfect weather. But first we got a little lunch across the street because I am not a nice person when I am hungry these days. This is my "feed me" face. This is Andrew's hungry face. We saw lots of fishes and then laid on the beach to dry off. Light breeze, minimal clouds, perfect temperature-what more could a girl ask for? I think he wants one.

Wednesday, October 26, 2011. We had so much fun there. We went to all the shows and spent all day there. I am so amazed by all the animals and the shows they put on. The killer whales were so cool. They would go around the pool and splash people with their tails and everyone in the first 15 rows got soaked. And I mean soaked. Ok, seriously how cool are these guys. They would swim up on to this platform and use their tales to spin themselves around a few times and "break dance". And now on to the dolphins.

Monday, October 8, 2012. Well, here we are getting toward the end. Can you believe it. I can't, I am excited and terrified all at the same time. I have pretty much grown out of all of my clothes and spend a significant amount of time in pj's so I have only taken a few pictures. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Sunday, November 27, 2011. We took a little outing to papa-go park but it was 100 degrees so we didn't stay long but Henry had a blast as always. We tried our hand at making caramel apples. It started out good. And this is what came out.don't laugh. They weren't our best work. And they were rock hard. But we ate them anyway! We are so glad they came to visit and hope they come again. It was so fun to have them around like old times-sniff sniff. Friday, November 4, 2011. He's so much hotter). Andrew and I...

Tuesday, December 6, 2011. New couch, Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations. We have been looking for a new coffee table for a while and we went into a local furniture store called the Potato Barn to take a look. We came out with a couch. What! Ya, we impulse buy. We have hated our couch for many moons for multiple reasons. We saw this one and fell in love immediately. And its super comfy. And now for Thanksgiving. I have a problem for cooking for just two people, but we had amazing leftovers for a week!

And I feel like I am basically torturing him every time I use it. Sigh. I've discovered that it's hard not to compare myself to other mothers. There are a few blogs I read every now and then, both written by first-time moms (one stay-at-home, one work-from-home) who have babies that are not much older than mine. These women are always impeccably dressed in expensive clothes (and six-inch heels! Let alone work out on a regular basis or most days even leave the house. My baby never goes hungry,. Manage to ...

Baker Twins
I have used blogging to document our twins' lives, as a makeshift baby book, and as therapy. Finally switched over to blogger from a website, and love how easy it is! I'm a teacher by trade (now teaching my toddlers instead of other people's first graders), a lucky wife, a proud mommy, and a restaurant owner. I am Johanna - rhymes with Donna, not banana - and the 'h' is not silent. About them? Camden Adelaide is fearless and girly. Grayden Victoria is sweet and outgoing. Saturday, August 8, 2015. Guacamole white bean dip. Lately I just can't get enough avocados! I recently discovered the joy that is avocado toast, and I'm obsessed. My kids don't really like avocados, which means that I get to enjoy the abundance of avocados I've been buying without two little people asking me for bites and stealing food off my plate. Sweet! It uses just a few very simple ingredients, plus it's gluten free, dairy free, and vegan! To try, and they were the perfect complement to this delicious dip! 2 teaspoons fresh...

Peaches and cream scones. I love scones. And I love peaches. So what could be better than combining them into a delicious, delicate, and tender peaches and cream scone? Ever since I made those amazing lemon poppyseed scones. I've been looking for another excuse to use my cute scone pan, and these scones did not disappoint! The scone dough is light and moist, and the peaches add so much great flavor. They're adorable and elegant too. These are the perfect treat to celebrate the end of summer! While this q...

The Baker Who Cooks. A simple meal, yet delicious. Baking, and other cooking activities. Meal of All Meals. My first point of reference was obviously The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. It was meant to be a toss between Per Se and Le Bernardin. Then I met a lady who found out I was going to New York and started to rave about Eleven Madison Park. She had just dined there and insisted I go. In 2014, it was the 4th best restaurant in the world. I am seated. The performance starts with a small white envelope with a letter opener. I open it and there’s a card with 4 symbols. December 11, 2016. Chocolate Chunk Zucchini Banana Bread. Ebirth is an incredible thing. To look back at who you were just a few years ago and see a totally different person is not at all alarming. In fact it feels right, it feels satisfying, it feels healing. It wasn’t like holding onto anything such as looking back to the past and never letting go of that. It was more like keeping life in a standstill. Keeping life unaltered, safe. It was my way of making sure I was immune to everything, an...So I cont...
