That dusty place with the envelopes that never got stamped. Who is The Epistolarian. July 10, 2014. It’s been called That Great and Terrible Day. I was raised to see it as a great day, or at least as if I was SUPPOSED to see it as a great day, the best day, better than a thousand days here the day I meet Jesus face to face. It’s a day not to fear, but to wait in anxious anticipation of right? No No spaghetti on the floor. Chuckle*… You little sinner. Great and terrible day? Will be a terrible day. You se...

That dusty place with the envelopes that never got stamped. Who is The Epistolarian. Author Archives: The Epistolarian. Disciple, Wife, Mom. Lover of books and food. Can you imagine that “wrongness” or broken relationship as the image of humanity before the Father until things were “righted” on. Great and terrible day? You know,...

July 31, 2013. 8220;Lies, lies, lies… Breaking us down with your lies, lies, lies…” -Glen Hansard. Tell me if this sounds familiar. 8221; Ooh, lets not forget, “Luxury is for. 8230; even those with small little dining tables (in fact it’s better that way… could you pass the salt…), so get you some luxury! To be unlimited.”. Give me a break. 8230; and the thing about a parent is that they...

On Saturday, August 3rd, 2013 by annie. In our dining room hangs a string of postcards, addressed to my husband’s grandmother. And mailed nearly a century ago by her adoring father, Mortimer Lane. He and Mary raised seven children, and this weekend, each of those seven families gather together to play in the sun, raise a chorus of ruckus laughter, share memories from decades, centuries past. Two hundred descendants from a man and woman who loved well. Tied together here with strong chords of love. What a...

Comfort {Five Minute Friday}. On Friday, May 10th, 2013 by annie. The rain drenches May’s magnolias; the last petals let loose, carpet the soaking earth. Spring has come again, and there’s a kind of comfort in seasons unfolding. One after another, around, around, around. My oldest asks for tea after school, and I see a little bit of my grandmother in her. And there’s a kind of comfort in generations of tea. The more I listen to my own daughters’ stories, the more I remember the gifts of simple trust.

On Friday, January 25th, 2013 by annie. The pile of laundry in the corner of the bedroom’s grown large again, a testament to my bent towards ideals over systems. A testament to a good many other things, too, I’m sure. Let’s not write about that. The words fall from their lips before mine utter. My life is full of litanies: storybook on repeat, a piggy back ride, the walk home from school, washing the rugs, welcoming friends in. Preach the gospel to each other everyday. Preach the gospel to me, please.

the view from here: The oppression of a silent suffering minority
http://www.theviewfromherecr.com/2013/05/the-oppression-of-silent-suffering.html
The view from here. Mostly cloudy and occasionally clear. Monday, May 20, 2013. The oppression of a silent suffering minority. I was born this way, I didn’t choose it. It's not a racial or ethnic minority, neither is it based on gender, religion, age, disability or sexual orientation. Like only 10% of the planet, I was born left-handed. It’s a ubiquitous oppression that shouldn’t be tolerated, so I’m bringing it to the attention of the world. Because he was left handed. This little genetic irony is a sym...

The view from here. Mostly cloudy and occasionally clear. Monday, June 24, 2013. That's why I hated Jerry Lewis and his stupid telethon. Every Labor Day he would hijack television and hold it hostage for the weekend until he got enough pledges for the Muscular Dystrophy Association to hand it back over to the public. What I didn't know when I was seven was that I too was one of Jerry's Kids. After three doctors who discovered it back in the day when you could get a diseased named after you. I won't bore ...

A man's journey speaking from the bottom to the top. Skip to primary content. My response to ‘Act Like Men’. October 16, 2013. I attended the ‘Act Like Men’ http:/ actlikemen.com/. Chauvinistic mistreatment of women and pointless insensitive generalities peppered the teaching earlier in the night. Women take forever to get ready. Real men aren’t vegetarians. Women are only helpers. Men don’t follow, they lead. Real men don’t order low fat decaf lattes. Women are the weaker vessel. Abuse your power. D...

The view from here. Mostly cloudy and occasionally clear. Friday, February 8, 2013. Overcrowding in the pet cemetery. Last week I mentioned via a facebook update that upon returning to work on our ministry campus there was a dead dog in the pool. At the time I didn't know who he belonged to but later found out that he was the 17 year old pet of the family of one of our gardeners who lives across the street. Before that day I had never thought much about vultures, and my perception of them had mostly been...
