The place of law in care | The Small Places

https://thesmallplaces.wordpress.com/2015/06/25/the-place-of-law-in-care

Resources on the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Resources on legal capacity and the UN CRPD. New to the UN CRPD. The place of law in care. June 25, 2015. To law. I grew up in the shadow of two types of litigation that had major consequences for my life and my family. Perhaps that has made me more sensitive to law those years of amassing evidence, giving evidence, rebutting evidence, waiting for lawyers to call and judges to make decisions. Limits to what we could do in the name of care, beyond what our manage...

Human rights, he answered, human rights and equality. We started seeing service users as people, just like us. https://thesmallplaces.wordpress.com/2014/09/24/spread-the-word-you-dont-need-mental-capacity-to-vote

Resources on the Mental Capacity Act 2005. Resources on legal capacity and the UN CRPD. New to the UN CRPD. Spread the word: you DON’T need mental capacity to vote. September 24, 2014. I came across an article on. This morning by Dimensions UK. After reading this article, I started to look around at other websites to see what they said about voting and learning disabilities. I found a website run by United Response (another care provider) called Every Vote Counts. Themselves. This website. On this, which...

Resources and blogs – Mental Capacity Law and Policy

http://www.mentalcapacitylawandpolicy.org.uk/resources-2

Mental Capacity Law and Policy. These are the free resources I use most often:. Mental Health Law Online. British and Irish Legal Information Institute. This hosts transcripts of decisions from a range of courts including, increasingly, the Court of Protection. I have included the RSS feed from this site for all decisions that it publishes relating to mental capacity (nb, this goes quite substantially wider than just cases decided in the Court of Protection). I make use of this online only (free) news se...

Rolling with the Punches: A Call to Union

http://loopys-rollingwiththepunches.blogspot.com/2015/05/a-call-to-union.html

Rolling with the Punches. Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice saying 'I will try again tomorrow'. Friday, 1 May 2015. A Call to Union. Post written for Blogging Against Disablism Day 2015. Scroungers, cuts, unfair tests", how dare anyone treat us thus, people cry. Incapable, unfit, inferior", this is how you make us look, others despair. Pain, misery, poverty", why do you refuse to see? Welfarists, pity seeking, anti inclusion", this is what you have become, some accuse.

Rolling with the Punches: April 2015

Rolling with the Punches. Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice saying 'I will try again tomorrow'. Sunday, 19 April 2015. Wow Well this year has been rubbish! I've been offline for most of it so far, barely making contact with anyone either on Twitter or Facebook. As anyone who is mostly housebound and who relies on social media for a lot of their day to day social interactions knows, that is not a good sign! Although there are still extra issues compared to normal. The foll...

The Small Places: February 2014

http://thesmallplaces.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html

Eleanor Roosevelt, 1958. Where, after all, do universal human rights begin? In small places, close to home - so close and so small that they cannot be seen on any map of the world. Yet they are the world of the individual person. Unless these rights have meaning there, they have little meaning anywhere. Without concerted citizen action to uphold them close to home, we shall look in vain for progress in the larger world.' Eleanor Roosevelt, 1958. The Small Places has moved. Tuesday, 25 February 2014.

Rolling with the Punches. Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice saying 'I will try again tomorrow'. Monday, 22 June 2015. Higher PIP percentages is NOT a good thing. The latest government spin machine is in action, trying to make us think that PIP is much better than DLA at supporting disabled people. This seems hard to believe when we know that it was introduced with an original aim of r educing expenditure by 20% (pdf). Ie 607,000 fewer eligible disabled people by May 2018.

Rolling with the Punches: October 2014

http://loopys-rollingwiththepunches.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html

Rolling with the Punches. Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice saying 'I will try again tomorrow'. Thursday, 16 October 2014. I won't take any lectures. I am disabled. I am very ill. I am also human. This means that (*gasp*) occasionally I might get things wrong. I often discuss disability matters online. It turns out that there is a lot I don't know, in particular about other illnesses and other disabilities which I don't personally have. His experiences are no more a "Get ...

Rolling with the Punches. Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice saying 'I will try again tomorrow'. Sunday, 17 August 2014. Here, let me do that", Pride or Impatience? I'm opening the main door to the block of flats. It is a yale lock. I ease my electric wheelchair as close to the door as it will go. I lean up and insert the keys. I put my arm back down for a few seconds (lifting my arm like that is hard and painful). I was less than impressed though when someone walked up be...
