Tour of New Zealand 2010. Exploring South Island by bicycle. For this tour I used a Thorn. Raven Tour with the infamous Rohloff hub. Apart from a new chain and set of tires it’s the same one I used for my ride across the USA. Plenty of written material about the RT and Rohloff hubs can be found on the web. The Thorn Raven Tour is a great all round bike. It may be a bit over-built for setting records but it’s a nice bike for touring. I find it comfortable and it works! Rims: Sun Ringle CR18. Tour of New Zealand 2010. Exploring South Island by bicycle. Laquo; Tapawera (day 38). Had a relaxing ride today along the Motueka River, took a turning off at Woodstock to follow it on the quieter road parallel to the Motueka Valley Highway and went in to Motueka via Brooklyn, an orchard farming area. Note: apologies for the many question marks, I’ll add the names in later when the map finally dries out – it’s still wet from my the day I rode over Haast Pass! Distance today: 55.90Km.

Tour of New Zealand 2010. Exploring South Island by bicycle. 5 March, 2010. Had a late start from Greymouth, was delayed by organizing boat back to Wellington, and doing touristy things like looking around town. Highway 6 was surprisingly quiet along the coast, I don’t know why that is as it is probably one of the most spectacular sections of coastal roads that I’ve traveled on in the south island. At Punakaiki I stopped at the Pancake stacks which were truly unique. Distance today: 82.29Km. 4 March, 2010.
