Day 77, July 31: La Connor | boomerangalaska

https://boomerangalaska.wordpress.com/2011/07/31/day-77-july-31-la-connor

Follow Boomerang's trip to South East Alaska. Day 77, July 31: La Connor. Next to last day.  We came to La Connor instead of Friday Harbor because we are concerned about the weather going out of Cattle Pass tomorrow.  It will be a much easier trip for us to go from here to Edmonds tomorrow. We had an easy trip in light winds and clouds.  What wind there was was in our faces again.  It just won’t give up. Native American facility in La Connor. Laquo; Day 76, July 30: Henry Island Outstation at Roche Harbor.

Follow Boomerang's trip to South East Alaska. Day 78, August 1: Edmonds. Well, here we are at the official end of our adventure.  Both boats have a little trip tomorrow to return to their own moorages, but we have decided that this is the official end. We had the nicest day of the whole trip coming down here from La Connor.  Sunny, light winds and following current all the way.  We averaged about 7 knots over the ground. I will do a more thoughtful summary of the trip from home tomorrow. You are commenti...

Follow Boomerang's trip to South East Alaska. Day 73, July 27: SYC Cortez Outstation. A beautiful day and very nice trip down here from Blind Channel.  We got started at 6:00 am to catch the tide.  In going through Dent Rapids and Yuculta Rapids we nailed the slack water exactly. The out station was pretty full, but we both got alongside docks.  We are doing laundry for the last time on the trip. We are on to the SYC Garden Bay outstation tomorrow.  43 miles today, about the same tomorrow. We ran into Pa...

Follow Boomerang's trip to South East Alaska. Day 74, July 28: Garden Bay Outstation. Here we are at Garden Bay as we continue our fast trip home.  It was a 46 mile trip which is a lot for us. An OK trip with calm in the morning and about a 12 knot wind on our nose the second half of the trip.  (We are tired of the wind on our nose.). Oysters in the cockpit, last night and tonight. Follow Boomerang's trip to South East Alaska. Day 72, July 26: Blind Channel Resort. Blind Channel is in one of the passages northwest of Stuart Island and Big Bay.  It is about 15 miles away from those rapids. We were able to motor sail and that, along with a favorable current, allowed us to go 47 miles in 7 hours, nearly a 7 knot average. Tomorrow, we will leave early again to catch the tide at Yuculta Rapids.  Tomorrow night at the SYC station at Cortez. Dinner tonight at Blind Channel Resort. The res...

Follow Boomerang's trip to South East Alaska. Day 75, July 29: Silva Bay. Here we are in Silva Bay.  We left from here on May 19 after staying here for an extra  day waiting for the weather.  We left going into a strong NW wind.  It was the first day of our trip of wind on our nose. We will be going out to dinner here tonight and then on to the SYC outstation at Roche Harbor tomorrow.  We will be working the tide to go through Porlier Pass and then down inside the Gulf Islands. Date : July 29, 2011.

Follow Boomerang's trip to South East Alaska. Day 76, July 30: Henry Island Outstation at Roche Harbor. One more stop on our way home.  We had a 42 mile trip here from Silva Bay.  A nice easy trip in the sun except for a 15 knot wind in our face all day.  We left a little late at 9:00 to catch the slack current at Porlier Pass.  Then, an easy motor here. We have just had the second half of Willie’s salmon.  Michael cooked it and it came out nicely. Laquo; Day 75, July 29: Silva Bay. Date : July 30, 2011.

Follow Boomerang's trip to South East Alaska. Day 79, August 2: Home. We brought the boat home from Edmonds to Hunts Point and, then, last night, Penny had a welcome home barbeque for us with family and neighbors included.  Included were six dogs and countless children.  It was great fun. This is time for some reflections.  We have been asked for our highlights for the  trip so, here goes. About | boomerangalaska

https://boomerangalaska.wordpress.com/about

Follow Boomerang's trip to South East Alaska. This blog is an account of the sailing trip to Alaska by the sailboats Boomerang and Restless from May 15 to August 1, 2011. O’Byrne – a 7 day cycle of skivvies – sounds like a submariner! To landlubber like me it is not clear what your departure date is, nor your anticipated return date. I’d like to see some scenery from the boat and know the location? Nice to know you have an Aussie name for your boat. Leave a Reply Cancel reply. Enter your comment here.
