Click the photo to see more pics]. This route provides a nice dirt alternative to riding the historic highway between Hood River and The Dalles. Expect lots of climbing which eventually pays off with stellar views of the Columbia River and Mount Hood. I wouldn’t try to push through on Ketchum, it gets super chunky up top, but if you know where to look, you can drop down to Mill Creek and loop back into The Dalles (hint: turn left at the power lines). 48 miles; 6,200 ft climbing; 55% dirt.

Click the photo to see the rest of the pics]. Gabe and I spent a week riding this new route across Oregon – starting from the train station in Klamath Falls and ending at the Deschutes State Park. The route is amazing and highly recommended. It can be done in less than a week (we had fairly leisurely days) and ties in nicely with the Amtrak from Portland to K-Falls.
