August 5, 2015. August 5, 2015. The Great Plains: Summer Road Trip. This yard is massive and in order to see the full expanse of the train yard, you must climb the “Golden Spike” Observatory. It was closed when we arrived but we were able to experience some of the rail yard from a bridge crossing the highway. I love this zoo. I took hundreds of pictures but here are a few of my favorites. Jackson maintains its frontier-like ruggedness with buildings crafted from the wood from the surrounding forests.
