lightweightmick's cider blog: Coals to Newcastle!
http://lightweightmick-cider.blogspot.com/2013/08/coals-to-newcastle.html
Notes from a small-scale cider maker. Wednesday, 21 August 2013. Can't cope won't cope! All batches tried so far this year are not up to par - thin and yucky. Hardly worth bottling. Definitely not up to my usual standard. with a bit of apple juice it's like bought stuff! This is the folly of making more than you can handle - biting and chewing and all that. It hasn't helped putting off cider jobs for other activities, but there's only so many hours in a day. Hopefully the later batches will be better.

lightweightmick's cider blog: September 2010
http://lightweightmick-cider.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html
Notes from a small-scale cider maker. Monday, 27 September 2010. Pressed 2nd batch yesterday - gravity of 1054 - washed all pressing boards down this morning. Need to keep apples coming in. Tuesday, 21 September 2010. Rather different - the 3 litres of 'turbo' cider is now racked. though it doesn't taste of anything, lol! No surprise really as it's just from cheap apple juice (.with added yeast of course). Sunday, 19 September 2010. Well, that went well. Started at 3pm. nearly there on Batch1! The pulper...

Click here to visit the Cider Workshop Discussion Group. Cider is an alcoholic beverage made from the fermented juice of apples. At least, it is in England. In the US, 'cider' is rough apple juice, and 'hard cider' is the fermented stuff! In France it's cidre. In Spain it's sidra. And in the German-speaking world it's apfelwein. They're all quite different, but they're all based on apples! If you're really interested in the exact details, you can find (somewhat out of date! Part 1 - Introduction. In 2008...

lightweightmick's cider blog: December 2010
http://lightweightmick-cider.blogspot.com/2010_12_01_archive.html
Notes from a small-scale cider maker. Monday, 27 December 2010. Ice in their Cider Anyone? Just how did I get 6.5 gallons into a 5 gallon barrel? Well I didn't, though thought I did. With a view to freeing up a 30 litre bin, I'd transferred Batch 1 last week to the 5 Gallon sherry container (now that 2 has gone - mainly on topping up other batches) only to discover today that it contained a lot of ice:. Showing some residual cider in the bottom:. This much in the sink:. Saturday, 25 December 2010. Direct...

lightweightmick's cider blog: December 2009
http://lightweightmick-cider.blogspot.com/2009_12_01_archive.html
Notes from a small-scale cider maker. Tuesday, 8 December 2009. Well, have only got around 4 gallons left of last year's now. it's a terrible feeling. There's about 4 gallons left. I have apples enough for maybe 10 gallons this year but sadly no time. Highlight this year was finding 3 bottles of '07 vintage that I'd forgotten about. ah, happy days. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). lightweightmick's cider blog: February 2010
http://lightweightmick-cider.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
Notes from a small-scale cider maker. Wednesday, 3 February 2010. Can't believe what's being passed off as cider these days. The local (Elm Tree, Elmton) has two hand pumps - Westons 'Old Rosie' and 'Traditional'. what the hell? I used to think that bottled 'Old Rosie' was quite reasonable, but the draught version is quite undrinkable. (mind you the bar didn't pull them, but said 'not be a minute' and disappeared from the bar. Though the Roger Wilkins was worth it at Arkwright. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

lightweightmick's cider blog: November 2010
http://lightweightmick-cider.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html
Notes from a small-scale cider maker. Saturday, 27 November 2010. Well 8 pumped out okay. didn't taste very good - reckon it'll come good though (SG1.005) - others around 1.002-1.004. With the early snow an icy path to the garage hasn't helped with the necessary toing and froing and I've already got bloomin' chilblains. Still got to get the 18lbs crabs sorted yet. phew, shopping list next - just time for a cuppa. Back ache - rack ache! Friday, 26 November 2010. Thursday, 25 November 2010. Simple plumbing...

Notes from a small-scale cider maker. Saturday, 8 February 2014. Ha ha, either way I like it:. This is the BEST cider to date. Full flavour. Good body. Crisp aftertaste on back of pallet, and a very Good colour (nearest you can get to a Good) urine sample. 9.5 out of 10. He likes it lol. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. lightweightmick's cider blog: Route 66
http://lightweightmick-cider.blogspot.com/2014/02/route-66.html
Notes from a small-scale cider maker. Thursday, 6 February 2014. Here we go again. Sweet as you like. 10 litre Swan urn cost a fiver - base was cracked - an easy fix - will hold 1 x 3 litre or 5 litre bag. Bent mushroom tray trivet keeps bag off bottom - working well! lightweightmick's cider blog: Not a Oner...
http://lightweightmick-cider.blogspot.com/2013/11/not-oner.html
Notes from a small-scale cider maker. Saturday, 16 November 2013. Nope, no apples pressed at all yet, not a single apple - did find a new roadside crab recently though - it's now on my Google apple tree map. Still chance yet though. New clutch now installed in 4x4 Panda - might get away with old battery yet, but will need 2 new tyres. No horn either and wiper spinde worn - as they do on old Pandas. Need to make a gap-filling bush to secure arm. And that's about it. for now. View my complete profile.
