A Matter of Words : September 2012

http://www.gopikanath.blogspot.com/2012_09_01_archive.html

A Matter of Words. Tuesday, September 11, 2012. Usually, I tidy up before going to bed. A ritual of putting things in their place. Even thoughts are filed. Without removing my made-up face. Last night, nestling against the crumpled heap. Of discarded clothes; a strange comfort I felt. Hiding myself in the chaotic folds. Too tired to pick up the mess. Living had created. I pressed the remote. And saw a movie. Of someone else’s life instead. Published: Brown Critique e-journal. Especially drawn to the toek...

A Matter of Words. Monday, September 15, 2008. The Terror of Grief. Lamenting, not just the death. Of her grandson, but a cruel fate. That robbed our lives of the. Snuffed out his tender life. Turning us into fearful. Why aren’t the skies in mourning. How does the sun smile so cheerfully. When hearts grieve, and. How can you shrug off terror. With gratitude for protection. Of you and your beloved. How can anyone be safe, ever again. When this heart bleeds. Broken into a million pieces. 169; Gopika Nath.

http://www.gopikanath.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html

A Matter of Words. Monday, October 29, 2007. Choir of Discontent [hinglish]. Laden clouds shed their burden. High on a limb, a black crow screeches. Kaen-kaen, kaen-kaen, kya hai, yeh zindagi? When we met in the realm of soul. Did I agree to live in this darkness. Did you even ask, ke mere saath chalogi. Zindagi ke uljhano mein? Must have known,. Tum mujhe de rahe ho,vo kaisi hogi? Refreshed with rain, green hearts. Delicately flutter, whispering disdain. Drowned by the indignant chorus. 169; Gopika Nath.

Stitch Journal: June 2015

http://gopikanathstitchjournal.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

A contemporary embroiderer's journal - of images, thread, fabric, colours and textures that evoke living, through the language of stitch. Wednesday, 24 June 2015. Knots, a Long Way. All who know, those who've attempted those tricky stunts, have all said we shouldn't keep the thread too long. But I was in a hurry. I had so much I needed to do. I thought the longer thread would sew faster. All I could think of was that the time it took, it wasn't worth it. I was self-critical, judgemental and grouchy.

Thursday, 11 April 2013. A Misplaced Universe [ Review - Jayashree Burman, Gallery Art Alive]. 8217;s metropolises may consider themselves emancipated for their assertion in breaking the glass ceiling in the corporate world, but is the Indian woman really freed from the rituals and tradition that are deeply etched in our psyche? Does she even want to be, is the question Jayshree’s water colours present. A reminder that those centuries of ritual are not that easy to erase. 30 July 2013 at 15:13. Savouring...

He supplied the entire village community, as well as the traveller, with pitcher, cooking pans and jars for storing grains, spices and salt. In addition he also made bricks and tiles. At one level, a potter is a potter so what sets apart a potter like Manisha Bhattacharya from the local kumhar? Is it her education? Is it her world exposure? Is it the challenge of our times? Monday, 26 October 2009. Embracing The Unavoidable - A Profile of Ruby Chishti. Looking at the stitched, doll-like figures crafted by Ruby Chisthi, you may imagine as I did, that she would be as ample-bodied as her textile sculptures. Consider then my surprise, when she emails her photograph and I find myself glancing at this slightly built, almost waif-like woman. Location: Gurgaon, Delhi, India. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). A contemporary embroiderer's journal - of images, thread, fabric, colours and textures that evoke living, through the language of stitch. Sunday, 24 May 2015. Like the surface of the moon. Marked with its shadows. The hollow of the empty cup. Gleamed through rings of debris. Of a flavourful brew. Like the women of Bengal. I sewed stitch by stitch. Under the shadow of this light,. Ruching, puckering, quilting. That canvas of emotions. There is no meaning for some things. But without this anchor. Maggie Ba...

A contemporary embroiderer's journal - of images, thread, fabric, colours and textures that evoke living, through the language of stitch. Friday, 14 March 2014. Can We Celebrate The Stains of Being? I have started looking at these as the marks of experience that are proof of having lived. And the larger the gamut of emotions, the more full one’s life has been. They were the marks of winning and losing and of falling and failing. Much like watching one’s thoughts through the process of meditation, t...

Wednesday, 8 July 2015. Accidental Perfection - Mrinalini Mukherjee [Conversation/ Review - Nature Morte]. Surrendering the knowing of the intellect in deference to the inner voice, which paves the path for perfection, is ancient wisdom. Often referred to as happenstance, it is not coincidence, but humility allowing perfection to manifest. But, rarely do artists say it just happened, in quite the way Mukherjee concedes. Failing doesn’t make someone a failure, quitting does. 8211; Bob Proctor. Are there also not limits set as to the kind of time one should technically take to achieve something?
