Surrendering the knowing of the intellect in deference to the inner voice, which paves the path for perfection, is ancient wisdom. Often referred to as happenstance, it is not coincidence, but humility allowing perfection to manifest. But, rarely do artists say it just happened, in quite the way Mukherjee concedes. Sunday, 24 February 2008. Facts of Fiction -[review - Sharmi Chowdhury [Gallery Art Alive. 8220;All the world's a stage,. And all the men and women merely players………….”. Bizarre Encounter. Tempera on silk. 81 x 44 inches. The ‘canvas’ is her stage, to narrate strange tales of characters with a world-view peculiar to them. Monday, 26 October 2009. Embracing The Unavoidable - A Profile of Ruby Chishti. Looking at the stitched, doll-like figures crafted by Ruby Chisthi, you may imagine as I did, that she would be as ample-bodied as her textile sculptures. Consider then my surprise, when she emails her photograph and I find myself glancing at this slightly built, almost waif-like woman. Location: Gurgaon, Delhi, India. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Friday, 6 March 2009. A Journey Into Personal Engagement - Samar Jodha Review [Phaneng]. However, the images haunted in a strange sort of way so I returned and through my conversation with Samar discovered nuances many others may have missed as well. Her wrinkles are a painting in themselves. Who is she? Is she married to the enlightened one? We don’t know. Does it matter? In our chaotic lives are we likely to meet her? Why should Samar tell us who she is? Are the issues under view relevant to just a dis...

Stitch Journal: June 2015

http://gopikanathstitchjournal.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

A contemporary embroiderer's journal - of images, thread, fabric, colours and textures that evoke living, through the language of stitch. Wednesday, 24 June 2015. Knots, a Long Way. All who know, those who've attempted those tricky stunts, have all said we shouldn't keep the thread too long. But I was in a hurry. I had so much I needed to do. I thought the longer thread would sew faster. All I could think of was that the time it took, it wasn't worth it. I was self-critical, judgemental and grouchy.

Like the condiments that go into making a good, tasty cup of masala chai; these stories about people, places and events surrounding the ritual of drinking or making tea, draw a portrait of city/nation/self. Monday, 27 February 2012. Then tying a gentle knot I placed the tea-bag into the glass, ‘Borosil’ carafe, of hot, milky water, with a sense of achievement. But apparently the evolved human being can and does. And somehow, I had expected it of the inanimate tea-bag too. I suppose, one could wri...Peopl...
