chris@poachedcreative: It’s one thing after another (in a good way)

http://poachedchris.blogspot.com/2009/08/its-one-thing-after-another-in-good-way.html

Thursday, 20 August 2009. It’s one thing after another (in a good way). This week was my 11th with Poached Creative – leaving just one more week until I have completed the further six weeks I agreed to after I finished the initial six week program, if that isn’t too confusing. So, as I began my penultimate journey to Wood Green, I started to think ‘what’s next, then? Getting your foot in the door. I’ve still got it, apparently. The work is for a website called What's Up Information. I have another interv...

http://poachedchris.blogspot.com/2009/09/armed-with-skills-experience-and.html

Tuesday, 22 September 2009. Armed with skills, experience, and the feeling I was almost certainly doing the right thing, I began my post-Poached journalism internship this week. What’s Up Information. Is a website dedicated to raising young people’s awareness of what’s happening in their area: be it a gig, show, exhibition, or training opportunity. Following on from my time with Poached, I have started an eight week internship in their office in Hackney. Getting to know the place. Different, but similar.

chris@poachedcreative: July 2009

http://poachedchris.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, 30 July 2009. Quality, not quantity. It’s been a productive – if a bit tiring – day today. A late night out last night meant I was a bit reluctant this morning, but it was worth the effort and I’ve arrived home with a brand new task to get my teeth in to. The new challenge involves interviewing clients of the NHS Jobs. Told by past clients. My brief is to contact individuals who are willing to use their experience of the site as a case study to be published online. Am I worrying about nothing?

chris@poachedcreative: Double figures

http://poachedchris.blogspot.com/2009/08/double-figures.html

Thursday, 13 August 2009. I have been at Poached for ten weeks now, and I have learnt a quite startling amount. I forget that sometimes. That’s why it’s important to take stock every so often. Otherwise, I lose track of the progress I’ve made, and don’t appreciate my achievements in the way I should. A bit of perspective is needed. For instance, right now I’m worried the Camden Calling. Not just filling time. My latest new skill. The first thing that struck me about the site was how ridiculously easy it ...

Poached Creative blog: May 2015

http://poachedmuses.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

The Human Right Act gets a stay of execution. Prior to the recent General Elections the Conservatives had pledged to replace “ The Human Rights Act. 8221; with a Bill of Rights and Responsibilities. However, there seemed to be no mention of it in the Queen’s Speech, at the opening of Parliament on Wednesday. It is not the first time the Conservatives have attempted to push their bill through: there was a similar attempt during the last coalition Government but it was blocked by the Liberal Democrats.

Poached Creative blog: My journey so far...

http://poachedmuses.blogspot.com/2015/08/my-journey-so-far.html

My journey so far. Mat outside Poached Creative's office at Bootstrap, Dalston. My journey with Poached Creative started several months ago, as the result of a conversation with my case-worker at St Mungo’s. I was living in supported housing and was looking at various ways to reconnect with the world, both socially and professionally, in recovery from substance abuse issues that had eventually left me homeless. The sessions were set around a large oval table which helped us all relax and open up, promoti...

Poached Creative blog: Depression, the stigma and the reality

http://poachedmuses.blogspot.com/2015/04/depression-stigma-and-reality.html

Depression, the stigma and the reality. This week is Depression Awareness Week, a week to reflect upon our approach towards mental illness. One in four of us is likely to develop a mental illness at some stage of our lives. The week aims to raise both awareness and funds to end the loneliness and isolation of depression, and the stigma surrounding it through highlighting what it means to live with the illness. Angela Williams, Deputy Director at Poached says:. Depression - a brief history. 1959 saw the i...

Poached Creative blog: Working together to create jobs for young people

http://poachedmuses.blogspot.com/2015/04/working-together-to-create-jobs-for.html

Working together to create jobs for young people. Young people are nearly three times more likely to be unemployed than the rest of the population, according to the Office for National Statistics. Over the past five years, Poached Creative and Mediorite have been helping to address this problem in Hackney, by providing the skills, support and guidance young people need to start their journey into employment. Matches young people that have voluntary experience with organisations looking to fill short term...

Poached Creative blog: Youth recognition

http://poachedmuses.blogspot.com/2015/08/youth-recognition.html

Youth is a critical period, it is where a generation is made or failed; it is the bridge linking childhood to adulthood and without the right support and guidance the transition can be wobbly and precarious. Ultimately, societies as a whole reap the benefits or bear the burden. This week, on 12 August, people from around the globe celebrated the 15. Anniversary since the establishment of International Youth Day. I applaud the millions of young people who are protesting for rights and participation, addre...

angela@poachedcreative: Precious time

http://poachedangela.blogspot.com/2009/05/precious-time.html

Monday, 25 May 2009. We're 6 weeks in and so much has happened in that short space of time. Jeevan has had a baby.and I'm the proud mother of a bouncing baby laptop! I have a PC at home but it's over 3 years old now, which is positively geriatric in computer terms. The laptop's very pretty and girly - from the metallic rose finish to the Swarovski crystals on the lid. I don't go in for bling that much but the laptop itself has a great spec, so why not? I know 10.45pm isn't the best time to start work...

http://poachedangela.blogspot.com/2009/05/to-be-or-not-to-be-self-employed.html

Wednesday, 27 May 2009. To be or not to be . self-employed? I feel as though I'm working full-time at the moment. If I haven't got stuff to do for Poached, then I'm collating information. For a music archive website, or I'm preparing items to include in a radio show. Things are getting busy. What worries me is how I can make a steady living out of writing. I know cash flow won't be consistent. I have rent and bills to pay, and if I come off benefits, suddenly there's no safety net. To have a chat about m...

Thursday, 1 October 2009. So long, farewell, auf wiedersehen, goodbye. Today I finally got my certificate for completing the twelve-week Poached Creative Writing and Communications training programme. Today is also my very last day (at least for now) with Poached Creative. Chris Warburton is currently loving his work experience for What's Up Information (read his blog. And(drumroll please). I got the voluntary position with Save the Children! Will they like me? Will I somehow find a way to screw this up ...

Sunday, 21 February 2010. The great thing about being with Poached Creative was not only did I eventually manage to find a job, but I found greater belief and confidence in myself to find a job that I have always dreamt of doing. I walked into Poached, after spending almost a year of sending endless and unsuccessful job applications to various organisations. Before this, I was at University. I honestly think if it hadn’t been for Poached, I probably wouldn't have even bothered looking for a job in ...
