Bike aboot

Wednesday, 16 March 2011. Summer is slowly sneaking up on us, the time where I turn into a 16 year old addicted to:. The smell of a bike running rich. The smell of fresh chain lube. The coffee whilst waiting for the bike to warm up in the mornings. The slip sliding on the Teflon tyres on the wet Scottish roads. The two fingers waved aggressively in the bus driver’s face. The time to mock Mauro for not having his big bike license yet. The 3 hours spent with Ann cleaning the bikes late Sunday afternoons.

Bike aboot: January 2011

http://bikeaboot.lawrab.com/2011_01_01_archive.html

Friday, 28 January 2011. The time is coming…. Time to get back on the road! It is that time of the year where all the horrid negativity of winter is starting to subside and the people with a passion for biking wants to get back on the road. In Scotland we don’t usually have a problem with snow, but this year it surpassed our expectations… One instance I can mention is that fact that I was stuck in traffic for 6.5 hours, trying to get home, a total of 30 miles… It was a Monday…. The four of us did have a ...

Bike aboot: August 2010

http://bikeaboot.lawrab.com/2010_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, 15 August 2010. Scotland – Stirling to Loch Earn (A9, A85). Enough of the specs. We met up at Stirling services for a run up on A9, Crieff, A85, Loch Earn for lunch and back down to Stirling on the A85, A84 via Callander. Roundtrip roughly 75 miles, a short run with annoying traffic but great roads. Not as many as last time:. For the gorilla pet we take along on the runs. Some dude’s tackle. Triumph, Sportster, Bandit (400) or at least their headlights. Ann with our porta-braai. Links to this post.

Bike aboot: Scotland - Linwood to Electric Brae route

http://bikeaboot.lawrab.com/2010/08/linwood-to-electric-brae.html

Saturday, 7 August 2010. Scotland - Linwood to Electric Brae route. Ann and I was late due the the fact that Rangers decided to schedule a football match around the same time our run was meant to start, it took us an additional 30 min to get to Linwood, filtering through traffic on the M8 from J10 onwards. We stopped all over the place, our first official stop was in Irvine for lunch at the The Ship Inn. Our 3rd stop was at the Electric Brae. Mauro suggested the route, it was absolutely fantastic, we did...

Bike aboot: September 2010

http://bikeaboot.lawrab.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

Sunday, 5 September 2010. Scotland – Glasgow to Glencoe (A82). Ann on the other hand has brand spanking new Bridgestone Battleaxe O23s on the bike, lightly scrubbed in and I actually did some stuff to clean out her carbs, I used the typical office based approach and bought some carb cleaner and ran two tanks with this stuff mixed in it through the engine. We headed off past Loch Lomond, turned off at Tarbet, on a road that seemed to be part of the Dakar rally. The Real Food Cafe. Hotel for some photos.

Bike aboot: Scotland - Milton to Rest and be thankful route

http://bikeaboot.lawrab.com/2010/07/milton-to-rest-and-be-thankful.html

Sunday, 25 July 2010. Scotland - Milton to Rest and be thankful route. We decided to do a run starting in the Glasgow area, this was Mauro’s 1st run with us and I came up with this route to make sure we don’t go to quick, the traffic made sure we didn’t. We met up at the services in Milton next to the Little Chef, Ann was chatting up the other bikers that came through while we waited for Jamie. Roundtrip of 78 miles. Parking on Glenfruin Rd, overlooking Faslane. Rest and be thankful. We hit some rain on ...

The Scotalian Donkey: Two posts in one day?

http://mauromasucci.blogspot.com/2009/03/two-posts-in-one-day.html

Sunday, March 01, 2009. Two posts in one day? As with any exercise, diet is important; It's doubly important when you suffer from digestive issues like I do. You need to make sure you eat the right amounts of protein, carbohydrates, and fats. You can't do that with ready meals. No way. No how! We'll mainly because I can cook as quickly using traditional methods as most people can using the microwave. Feel free to leave a comment! Sunday, March 01, 2009. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). The Scotalian Donkey: August 2008

http://mauromasucci.blogspot.com/2008_08_01_archive.html

Sunday, August 31, 2008. The Cycle - Day 1. We had spent the night in the Gothenburg Hostel in a similar fashion to sardines. The room 5 of us stayed in was tiny, and very intimate but we were in high spirits specially after a feast the night before in the main street in the city. I make no apologies guys, this is going to be a long one. We then proceeded to go over various hills and bridges, all the time thinking "it was meant to be a lot flatter than this, why isn't it flat? The cycle to the house was ...

The Scotalian Donkey: September 2008

http://mauromasucci.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html

Monday, September 29, 2008. Who are you calling a jerk? Yesterday was the first day I got back on the bike since getting back from Sweden. Cycling back to Irvine from Glasgow. 38 miles. I'd done it in 2.75hrs in one go the last time (two weeks before the trip). My muscles were starting to seize up pretty badly, my lips were dry, and I could feel them starting to crack. I made it though. So what the heck happened? The net result is a very bad nights sleep; and very sore muscles the day after. 21st Septemb...

The Scotalian Donkey: Never do things half-heartedly...

http://mauromasucci.blogspot.com/2009/02/never-do-things-half-heartedly.html

Monday, February 23, 2009. Never do things half-heartedly. Exercise should never be unenjoyable. If you don't have fun then you shouldn't be doing it. Whats the point? Sure, I lift weights and I get pain and muscle burn. BUT.I enjoy the feeling I get from it after lifting the weights. The endorphins that are released plus all the extra oxygen going to your brain only help to make my mood feel better. As I don't like the bikes in the gym, and my weekends are pretty packed that leaves me three options.

The Scotalian Donkey: November 2008

http://mauromasucci.blogspot.com/2008_11_01_archive.html

Saturday, November 08, 2008. For years i've been battling my weight (the opposite of what most people think) - I'm what's termed a hard gainer. I can exericise till I am red in the face and I will gain strength and stamina but never gain mass. It's a real pain in the butt! The university of Chichester carried out a study which showed that having 145g of turkey a day increased muscle concentration by 40% and improved cycling performance by about 20%. These gains were made without altering the rest of ...

The Scotalian Donkey: July 2008

http://mauromasucci.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html

Thursday, July 31, 2008. Time heals all wounds. Time does heal all wounds - well most of them.if they aren't fatal. or cause a limb to drop off. or get infected with gangrene.ok so it heals some wounds and doesn't do anything for others. But what do you do when you dont have time to let the wounds heal? We have just over three weeks now before the cycle and we need to ramp up the training so that we can have a few days carb loading before hand with absolutely no exercise at all. Thursday, July 31, 2008.

The Scotalian Donkey: December 2008

http://mauromasucci.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 29, 2008. A fine balancing act. Diet seems to be difficult for a lot of people. It's easy for me. Eat. Everything. Right now. Every day. Thinking about it though, there must be something I do differently to others to manage first of all to eat the same quantity every day without being sick, and secondly to not fall asleep at work after eating what I eat. So, how do you eat masses during the day without sleeping. Balance what you eat with the energy levels it is going to give you and ...

The Scotalian Donkey: New Theme Tune

http://mauromasucci.blogspot.com/2009/06/new-theme-tune.html

Friday, June 19, 2009. Now, taking 3 minutes a mile off your time is hard enough, adding another 12 miles to your total is even harder. Mix that with trying to build mass and stamina for a 400 mile cycle and you have a totally insane ambition. Its these insane ambitions that get me through life so I've selected myself a new theme tune:. How am I going to manage the training? Run for 20 mins. Fartlek: 4x6 mins quick pace with 3 mins slow jog/walk between each. 20 mins easy run. 30 mins slow run. Remember:...

http://mauromasucci.blogspot.com/2009/03/motivationor-lack-of.html

Sunday, March 01, 2009. Motivation.or lack of. This weeks been pretty bad for me mentally, I've not been able to get myself motivated at all. Even though I cycled to/from work once this week and was on a little high, I've since found it really hard to get myself into a state of mind that will help me train. I know I SHOULD. Do some housework; I should. Be doing that extra bit of work documentation; I should. Feel free to leave a comment! Sunday, March 01, 2009. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Motivat...
