What's going on in Boatbird Land - Narrowboating and South Africa
June | 2016 | Boatbird
https://boatbird.blog/2016/06
What's going on in Boatbird Land – Narrowboating and South Africa. Archive June, 2016. I have some great memories of my brother…. Ever so slightly bonkers, totally outrageous, generous to a fault, hopeless with money, practising hypochondriac, pathological liar and a mincer of note – yep, a raving queen. And, back in. Day, that was illegal – punishable with a prison sentence. I think this sometimes made things difficult for my other brother, who followed him through school. You can probably imagine.

What's going on in Boatbird Land – Narrowboating and South Africa. Tag Archives: systemic sclerosis. Good name for a boatie blog. But this isn’t that; it’s just what I do at this time of year – me and millions of others I suspect – reflect on the year that’s passing. I hate to be negative but 2016 hasn’t been a great year, one way or another. I lost a brother. I wish them all well for 2017 and good luck with their treatment. And I received a dodgy diagnosis of my own: something called Scleroderma. Then t...

Percy: Percy gets some attention at last !
http://nbpercy.blogspot.com/2015/06/percy-gets-some-attention-at-last.html
A chronicle of ownership of NB Percy and life in general. For the boater and the gongoozler alike. Friday, 26 June 2015. Percy gets some attention at last! I like to look back on what I was up to in previous years, and to do that I obviously need to blog about the non boaty stuff as well. It was a great fit. I expect when the windows are fitted in there will be a small 1-2mm gap I can seal -perfect. All swept first, then surface stuff lifted with a scraper then the whole locker was wire brushed. Then is ...
Percy: July 2015
http://nbpercy.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
A chronicle of ownership of NB Percy and life in general. For the boater and the gongoozler alike. Friday, 31 July 2015. The bike. remember the bike? We did not make Colditz sadly, ill health (not mine) and ill health of family saw fit to kill that trip. Time was spent as detailed in other blogs in getting Percy ready for the pain cruise and paint job. So my bike was calling one Wednesday evening in July after getting back from down south. Just a short post to remind myself I did ride a little in 2015.
Percy: May 2015
http://nbpercy.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
A chronicle of ownership of NB Percy and life in general. For the boater and the gongoozler alike. Tuesday, 26 May 2015. Oil change and engine fettle. From 100mph to 4mph . well you know what I mean. Off the bike over to the boat yesterday for lawn mowing (I hate lawn mowing such a pain but I like looking at mown lawns - got the house one to do tonight and maybe two more to do this weekend - more on that later.). For the record the engine hours was at .271. Sunday, 24 May 2015. This year the annual Honda...
Percy: Help me out here....would you believe boat heating ?
http://nbpercy.blogspot.com/2015/06/help-me-out-herewould-you-believe-boat.html
A chronicle of ownership of NB Percy and life in general. For the boater and the gongoozler alike. Sunday, 7 June 2015. Help me out here.would you believe boat heating? Ok in considering this post account for the fact I 'feel the cold'. The sun is at last shining and the weather is slowly warming up so I am thinking about the winter aboard Percy. or heating in general. Somewhat influenced by a post by Chas and Ann off NB Moore 2 Life. On with the radiators". we have to have a fire to light and keep in.
Percy: December 2014
http://nbpercy.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
A chronicle of ownership of NB Percy and life in general. For the boater and the gongoozler alike. Wednesday, 31 December 2014. 12 months later . We have just had a nice last 2014 meal in which we reflected on the last year and pondered our 2015. We were not sure where we were this time last year. checking back on the blog. We were actually on board for the New Year in 2013, without any forethought or inkling what 2014 would deliver. Last year it was 94 posts. Anyhow, tomorrow Rachel is at work so I will...

http://nbpercy.blogspot.com/2014_10_01_archive.html
A chronicle of ownership of NB Percy and life in general. For the boater and the gongoozler alike. Monday, 6 October 2014. Just took Leia for a before bedtime wee. the mooring was beautiful and misty after the rain. so I got the camera out with the tripod. For best effect click on them to get the full size image. Friday, 3 October 2014. The weather. glorious, sunny, warm, nil wind and into October, either we are going to have another wet and mild winter or a real icy bugger to test my resolve. HS2 not co...
Percy: What you get for your money...!
http://nbpercy.blogspot.com/2015/06/what-you-get-for-your-money.html
A chronicle of ownership of NB Percy and life in general. For the boater and the gongoozler alike. Wednesday, 3 June 2015. What you get for your money! I got my canal mag this morning. A nice review of I guess one of the last Hudson's to be built, which is sad. The price - Circa £150,000, wow that is a lot for a boat and whilst a Hudson it was still a lot of money for the space it provided. 163;270,000 for this one bedroom property in Chichester. Percy: January 2015
http://nbpercy.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
A chronicle of ownership of NB Percy and life in general. For the boater and the gongoozler alike. Saturday, 31 January 2015. The coal man delivers. When we brought Percy back from Braunston we got iced in at Nuneaton, the dog poo capital of the canals as I recall! We were stuck, gave it a go and failed plus we were getting the usual hard stares from other boaters worried about their blacking. Re the coal we have tried. Orange bag - not sure it has a name. Mark delivers to the boat of course and while do...

I hate to be negative but 2016 hasn’t been a great year, one way or another. I lost a brother. Countless celebrities lives ended – we lost such a lot of talent in 2016, many of whom were great inspirations of mine. I suppose we tend to see them as immortal. Then there was th...

Life at wing afloat. Friday, 22 May 2009. What a gorgeous day off! I found two new regular clients for my cleaning today! Then our friend Piano Dave rang us to say he was down near the boat and we arranged to meet up. We gave him some of the tablets that David no longer needs for his prostate- saving Dave some money and giving us a feel-good feeling about helping a friend. It was so nice to lie on a sandy beach rather than a pebbly one- I even went for a swim which was lovely- first swim of the year!
Boatbird | What's going on in Boatbird Land – Narrowboating and South Africa
What's going on in Boatbird Land – Narrowboating and South Africa. I was busy with the internet ablutions earlier; catching up with the e mails/favourite blogs/facebook and so on and came across a post from blogging buddies of mine on NB Tumbleweed. They wrote of a boat trip to Ely, which evoked memories of the time, five years ago now, when John and I had just started out on our mission to move Hobo from Hartford Marina to destinations unknown. We’d unplugged…. Negotiated that awkward reverse…. At silly...

Wednesday, March 14, 2018. 📖 #18 Draycote and Brandon. Wednesday 14th March 2018. After dipping the Red-throated Diver. Yesterday I couldn't have timed my arrival better at Draycote Water this morning as Richard Mays and Dave Cox had just sent out the word of a summer plumaged Black-necked Grebe. Just off the sailing club! Was still around Farborough Bank but I didn't stop at the play area for the long staying Hawfinch. Drifting over East Marsh Pool! Brandon Marsh has returned to some normality after th...
