Going to Pieces: 04/15
http://goingtopieces.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 27, 2015. Look at this fabulous quilt! No, it's not mine. Christine Penna made this colorful fellow after seeing a photo I posted on the blog back in 2012. I love Christine's interpretation and her fabric and color choices. Those whimsical dragonflies are a great addition! It's an honor to have someone be inspired by a photo I've taken, and it's even better to see such a great result. Thanks for sharing this with me, Christine, and for allowing me to share it here! Monday, July 11, 2016. Wishing I were there. Well, I am back from vacation. I confess that I am struggling a bit with the post-vacation return to reality. Laundry? Who cares. I want to sit and read and paint and poke around on my ipad, in that lovely vacation mode of having nothing more pressing to do than wonder what relaxing thing to do next. So I am prolonging (and reliving) the excursion by scanning my sketches and uploading my photos and telling you all about it. On one drizzly day, I spent some tim...
Going to Pieces: Photoshop's Cutout Filter
http://goingtopieces.blogspot.com/2011/10/photoshops-cutout-filter.html
Saturday, October 22, 2011. Renate asked how I use Photoshop to help me define areas of color (which I mentioned when I described how I made my "Midsomer Tomato" quilt above, so I thought I'd demonstrate here. First, you start with a photo. Here's one of some hydrangea florets that I took a few summers ago. I open it in Photoshop, and go to the "filters" menu, then under the "Artistic" filter options, choose "cut out." It selects color areas for you. One click, and voila:. It's up to you. Then I trace th...
Going to Pieces: The Best of What I've Read Lately
http://goingtopieces.blogspot.com/2015/05/the-best-of-what-ive-read-lately.html
Saturday, May 16, 2015. The Best of What I've Read Lately. Have you read anything really good lately? During the last month I was afflicted with some weird fluey bug that made me feel tired and draggy and achy a lot of the time. so what's a girl to do? Curl up and read, that's my solution. Actually, that's my solution to a whole lot of things. So what'd I read, you ask? I have loved every single thing I've read by Marisa de los Santos, and I can highly recommend her newest, " The Precious One. All the Li...

Going to Pieces - Books and Reading: May 2012
http://goingtopiecesbooks.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html
Sunday, May 20, 2012. Tired of Head Tilting? This is one of the funniest and most clever apps I've seen in a while. It's called Shelflook (available at your App Store for 99 cents). And its whole purpose is to save you from tilting your head when you look at shelves of books at a bookstore or library. I think I might need this. Not because I'm tired of tilting my neck, but because it's just so funny. You scoff? Just wait until you're eighty with a sore neck and I'll be fine. :-). View my complete profile.

I'm a textile artist, not a blogger. But this is my blog…. Tag Archives: 12×12 challenge. Who’d have thought it: Teaching! April 24, 2016. For the exhibition last November I challenged myself to make 12 pieces, these would hopefully show the creative journey I was on and how my techniques and confidence were growing. I bought a tiny little pack of red dots in the vague chance that I may sell one. I taught the first class in January, a lovely group who hopefully learnt something from my techniques. I ...

Going to Peru- how about you?
Going to Peru- how about you? Saturday, September 12, 2009. 1 What’s the best compliment you’ve received? 2 What’s the strangest thing that’s happened to you on a combi? A Once while I was getting on a combi I clipped my Achilles heel on some rusty piece of metal sticking out from somewhere. I was so shocked watching the blood pour from my heel and pool in my shoe that I forgot to get off at my stop. By the time I finally yelled, “baja! 3 What’s the best gift you’ve received from a Peruvian? Claro But if...

Going to Pieces
Monday, December 01, 2014. Grand Illusion Mystery Quilt. Bonnie Hunter is once again doing a mystery quilt. Once again I am participating, this is at least the fourth mystery I have done of Bonnie's. This year the quilt is " Grand Illusion. She does an excellent job of presenting each clue and giving tips that help develop quilting skills. Bonnie breaks things down into small pieces which are easy to accomplish (skill-wise) although often time consuming because she uses LOTS of pieces. Orange Crush, inst...
Going to Pieces
Saturday, December 30, 2017. A Tree that Tells Our Story. Christmas is over, and we're in that lovely, quiet week between Christmas and New Year's where I like to just relax and take pleasure in that "everything's-been-done-and-there-is-nothing-to-do-but-relax" feeling. Now really, there is plenty to do besides relax. But this week, I ignore it and just enjoy the decorated house and the fridge full of leftovers. I'll worry about life again next week. In Point Arena, California and where we were able to s...

Going to Pieces - Books and Reading
Friday, October 24, 2014. We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves. I often feel that the books I like the best are ones that I could never have expected. They're not predictable, they're not typical of any particular genre. They're just what I was in the mood to read at the moment I was reading, but I could never have said what I was in the mood for. We are All Completely Beside Ourselves. There's a reason this book has won all sorts of acclaim. It's short-listed for the 2014 Man. Tuesday, October 14, 2014.
