But it was a case of the whole being less than the sum of its parts. Thursday, March 12, 2015. This is the ORIGINAL Sacher torte as sold at Hotel Sacher. The cake is pretty dense and dry, it's layered and the cover is hard: it's not ganache. It's actually made by making simple sugar syrup and melting the chocolate in the syrup. The cake is made without any rising agents, except the egg whites. This Mary Berry gets right. The apricot preserve is to be warmed, sieved and have a little dark rum added. It works to preserve the cake. Is not a Sacher. Is absolutely not a Sacher!

Luckily, there are plenty of winter goodies to substitute - apple turnovers, pecan pie, . pumpkin cupcakes? Now, see, I'm not a huge fan of pumpkin anything, but you wouldn't have guessed it from my cupboard. I had six cans of the stuff sitting around with no plans to use them and no memory of how I had acquired them. They're breeding I tellsya! 1/4 c granulated sugar.

Friday, September 07, 2012. One week of Lukas. Today Lukas is one week old. Yay! The not so yay part was when he had to be hospitalised on Wednesday for jaundice. Initially the PD told us that it it might be for two days but thankfully, his levels dropped to an acceptable number after the first night so he got discharged! Anyway. all is fine now :).
