I discovered the benefits of keeping the correct tyre pressures a few weeks ago – the scooter had seemed a little sluggish for a while, until I discovered that the tyres had gone down to 17psi! This will necessitate me first of all replacing the main battery cables, as the original ones are nowhere near beefy enough for the job. The resistor mod I mentioned in my last post has now been done, along with replacement of the phase wires from the controller as the originals, although thicker than those going to the motor were still a little on the thin side. Not just another WordPress.com weblog. Oh well, maybe it is. The “Perkins/Fordyce” BMS. And so to lithium…. In the beginning…. Add to this the weight saving (about 20Kg of lithium vs. 47Kg of lead-acid) and you can see that I may gain more than a little performance 🙂. Fast-forward a few weeks and the C rewrite is almost complete, the slave board is completely populated and working, the lithium cells have arrived and been assembled into a pack, and work has started in earnest on the actual conversion.
