Sunday, 27 November 2016. Shoe Heel-to-Toe Drop: What it means for you. I’ve received some feedback about confusion regarding the definition of shoe heel-to-toe drop, and its implications for running style. Therefore, I am writing this brief article to try and explain what it all means for the average runner looking to buy a new pair of running shoes. Bear in mind that all technical data are generally given for a size US9.0 shoe. It goes without saying that a smaller. In recent years, a more moderate dro...

Running Commentary: April 2015

http://runningcommentarysg.blogspot.com/2015_04_01_archive.html

Friday, 3 April 2015. Some ways to achieve better shoe fit. One option is to fix the length of the laces at the first pair of eyelets loosely so as to completely eliminate any tension at the toebox when you tighten up the laces. The pics below show how that can be achieved:. Photo credit: Ryan Hodierne. Photo credit: roadrunnersports.com. One option is to skip eyelets in the middle of the shoe so that there is more slack in that section. This is called gap lacing. Sometimes the arch structure of the inso...

Running Commentary: REVIEW: Saucony Kinvara 7

http://runningcommentarysg.blogspot.com/2016/05/review-saucony-kinvara-7.html

Tuesday, 24 May 2016. REVIEW: Saucony Kinvara 7. Advertised stack: 28mm heel, 18mm forefoot. My K7 came in at 228g for a US9.5, 8grams heavier than the K5 in the same size. This is by no means heavy for an uptempo trainer. For comparison, the Adios Boost comes in around 230g for my size. I have no problem accepting a weight gain, but that gain must come with some tangible benefits. I have found the overall fit to be true to size. Photo credit: Saucony.com. Wednesday, 2 March 2016. Tokyo Marathon 2016 Race Report. So 2015 did not go very well. After deciding to cut down on my racing schedule to peak better for my key marathons, I ended up running 2:49 in Seoul, and 2:52 in Frankfurt, which were some of my slowest marathons despite being billed as relatively fast courses. After the race I got a pretty decent sunburn. You can see my GPS file here:. Https:/ connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/1066409011. REVIEW: Brooks Launch 3. The heel counter is very plush, ...

Running Commentary: December 2015

http://runningcommentarysg.blogspot.com/2015_12_01_archive.html

Thursday, 10 December 2015. The Metarun in US9.5 weighs 310g on my scale, and that puts it in line with a Hoka Stinson Lite or a Brooks Transcend. That is probably the upper limit of what I would want to use for long or easy runs. At 310g, it is still lighter than the ASICS Kayano or GT2000 though and could potentially fill the gap between the DS Trainer and these stability trainers. In my initial first impressions review over at www.roadtrailrun.com. Photo credit: RunBlogRun Instagram. Version) is desig...

Running Commentary: May 2015

http://runningcommentarysg.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html

Sunday, 31 May 2015. I would like to focus on a frequently neglected aspect of preparing for a race – confidence. Developing race confidence depends a lot on the distance and profile of the race you are training for, and maybe even relies somewhat on having enough racing experience. What if you have larger ambitions like setting a personal best at a particular race distance? What about a shorter race like a 10k race you want to do well in? Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Journey of an Orthopaedic Surgical Resident and Runner. What does a House Officer (HO) do? Chinese New Year is a time when one needs to do lots of explaining of what you have been up to in the past year. Having just graduated and now working as a house officer, people wonder what I actually do. Anyway lets get serious. I am going to give you a typical run down of what a HO in a surgical department. Steps into the hospital wards, grab a computer and churning out the patient’s list. Do we do more scans?

Journey of an Orthopaedic Surgical Resident and Runner. How important is sleep in preparing for a race? Written for Yellow Ribbon Prison Run 2012 Race Preparation Articles. Sleep is an often underrated form of recovery. Athletes are keen to buy shelf products such as compression garments, nutrition and other products, without realizing that this free activity of sleeping is actually the key behind recovery. Running Commentaries | Goofus (Rachel, writing in red) and Gallant (Amy, writing in blue) go for a run! …and write about it.

Goofus (Rachel, writing in red) and Gallant (Amy, writing in blue) go for a run! 8230;and write about it. Amy’s 2009 Races. February 6, 2011. It was a beautiful, beautiful weekend here in Sacramento. I’m sorry to tell you east coast and midwest folks this but it was 75 degrees, sunny and wonderful out. Every Feb it gets nice for a weekend and we all think winter’s over (it’s not). But it’s the perfect break from the awful, awful fog that’s socked us in for months. So I went back home and ran 11 of the ha...

A Running Commentary – Thoughts about life and fitness…

Thoughts about life and fitness…. I’m a creature of habit, and that cuts both ways. Whether I’m in the habit of doing good things or bad things, I tend to stay in those habits until something knocks me out of them. Sometimes that’s external and sometimes it’s internal – I just get tired of suffering through *WHATEVER* enough to make a change and stick with it until it takes hold. Call them motivations, call the internal kind self-motivation. I started simply by saying that I’d do something active e...

This is a new word for me, and one with a satisfyingly quasi-onomatoepic quality, reflecting the sound I made, internally at least, when it appeared on my doorstep: the point at which I realised there was no going back. It’s given me a strange few months, bouncing between conflicting sensations of liberation and claustrophobia – made exponentially more compl...
