Die genaue Ursache von Muskelkrämpfen ist nicht genau geklärt. Scheinbar ist es eine Kombination aus Problemen in der Nervenverschaltung, zentraler Ermüdung sowie Verschiebung des Salz-und Wasserhaushaltes, was die erstgenannten Ursachen über die kritische Schwelle für einen Krampf. Die Freude am Schwimmen sollte trotz Krämpfen nicht vergehen.
