Dermot Breen's Blog: February 2015
http://dermotbreen.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, 28 February 2015. California 3rd February 2015. We spent the afternoon at a nearby local park where several Varied Thrushes had bee reported on eBird. We eventually managed to catch up with a few individuals but they were rather elusive in nature. California has experienced a bit of an influx of this species this winter and they are often difficult to come across in normal winters. We also had our first Califronia Towhees, White-throated Swifts, Red-shouldered Hawks and Goshawk. US Navy Sea Hawk.

bird life: Things I am grateful for today
http://birdsandlife.blogspot.com/2012/11/things-i-am-grateful-for-today.html
Observations on birding and life, from a novice at both. Saturday, November 17, 2012. Things I am grateful for today. The sun's surprise reminder of warmth on my face when I step into the backyard after lurking in bed sick with a cold. That the starling sitting at the top of the spruce tree soaking up the rays doesn't feel remotely offended that my immediate thought upon resolving its shape into something I recognize is "Oh, just a starling". bird life: The most disturbing shot of a Tufted Titmouse you have ever seen
http://birdsandlife.blogspot.com/2012/11/the-most-disturbing-shot-of-tufted.html
Observations on birding and life, from a novice at both. Sunday, November 18, 2012. The most disturbing shot of a Tufted Titmouse you have ever seen. Thank you, auto-focus, for completely blurring the Black-capped Chickadee I was attempting to photograph. Were you trying to send me a message? Were you trying to warn me of the true demonic intent of the chickadee's Tufted Titmouse ally? The bird looks as though it is planning - and capable of - world domination. Force of nature, chairwoman of the Great Gu...

bird life: Things I am grateful for on Thanksgiving
http://birdsandlife.blogspot.com/2012/11/things-i-am-grateful-for-on-thanksgiving.html
Observations on birding and life, from a novice at both. Thursday, November 22, 2012. Things I am grateful for on Thanksgiving. The clear New England sky, bare branches, the oxygen in my lungs, my heart beating in my chest, love and warmth and friends, acceptance, hope, life and memory and the fact that even those who are no longer taking in that oxygen and that crisp autumn sky are still here as long as they are in our memories. bird life: February 2012
http://birdsandlife.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Observations on birding and life, from a novice at both. Tuesday, February 28, 2012. The strangest scam in Bangkok? Namtok Mae Surin National Park, Mae Hong Son, northern Thailand. Asok district, Bangkok (thank you, Frank Gallo, for the pic). It is really a pity I didn't have a camera. Or perhaps the pity is that I took Art all the way to the. End of high school but apparently didn't absorb a great deal. Streaked Weaver (By J.M.Garg, via Wikimedia Commons). More than ten dollars? 6 And why on God's earth...

bird life: Emus are still a bit scary
http://birdsandlife.blogspot.com/2012/11/emus-are-still-bit-scary.html
Observations on birding and life, from a novice at both. Tuesday, November 27, 2012. Emus are still a bit scary. Do you remember when you were little and certain animals seemed very, very big and scary? Thank heavens I didn't know then what I know now: that it's their claws they use for defense, and those claws are strong enough to rip metal fences, and if cornered they kick with their big, three-toed feet. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Spoon-billed Sandpiper, nearing extinction. Donating is simple...

bird life: Sod off, ya' furry bastard
http://birdsandlife.blogspot.com/2012/11/sod-off-ya-furry-bastard.html
Observations on birding and life, from a novice at both. Tuesday, November 13, 2012. Sod off, ya' furry bastard. Frank puts the first bird feeder out on the deck of our new place. "How long will it take before the birds find it? To me it sounds like a muppet on Valium, but judging by the effect it's having, this call is clearly very menacing to a rival nuthatch. In contrast to all the avian aggression, when a squirrel appears on the railing of the deck, it looks tremendously relaxed. Squirrels are SO CUT...

See you at sunrise...: May 2014
http://arcticory.blogspot.com/2014_05_01_archive.html
See you at sunrise. First things first, at the end of the last post, I said I’d keep you posted once I identified this flower:. Turns out, it’s a Rock Jasmine. It seems to be pretty common; at least it’s distinct enough when I do see it. Anyway, I wasn’t guiding for most of today so I ventured out solo. First up, a female LONG-TAILED DUCK stretched her wings out on Weather Bureau Lake:. A check of the Polovina Wetlands yielded the ubiquitous RED-NECKED PHALAROPES:. Likewise, Lake Hill is aptly named:.
