Why I Bike: A Manifesto. Tour de DCPL VII. May 15, 2016. This is my third year doing the. This ride continues to have appeal for me because it’s a ride that highlights libraries in the area, and the locations change every year. This year, we went to a couple of libraries outside the DC Public Library system, in nearby Montgomery County, Maryland. We started at the Takoma Park (DC). Branch, the oldest in the DCPL system. We then made our way to the Juanita E. Thornton Shepherd Park. March 20, 2016. The st...

Why I Bike: A Manifesto. Tour de DCPL VI. May 17, 2015. May 17, 2015. Many kudos to the folks at the DC Public Library for putting together this ride during National Bike Month. Every year. The Tour de DCPL. Is a social bike ride that makes stops at selected library branches to promote both bicycling and the various neighborhoods within the system. This year, the tour highlighted a few locations in the Northwest Quadrant. We started at the MLK Jr. Memorial Library. It was starting to get pretty hot outsi...

Why I Bike: A Manifesto. Day: August 2, 2015. August 2, 2015. August 2, 2015. For the month of July, I biked 94.01 miles in 17 days. I also ran 9 times for 19.43 miles. Finally got my butt in gear to ride to work a couple of times this month. I hope to get more bike miles in to get ready for some upcoming rides in the fall. In any case, I’m enjoying the summer while it lasts. Tour de DCPL VII. Trot for Hunger 5K 2015. Potomac Pedalers Touring Club. Washington Area Bicyclist Association.

Why I Bike: A Manifesto. June 30, 2015. For the month of June, I biked 21.31 miles in 3 days. I also ran 8 times for 22.79 miles, which included the Pride 5K. Wow– that’s the first time I’ve ever run more than I’ve biked in a given month. I took the month off from work, which meant my commuting miles went out the window, and I didn’t do much riding beyond that. I’m back to work in July. July 2015 Stats →. Tour de DCPL VII. Why I Bike: A Manifesto. Great Pumpkin Ride 2015. October 25, 2015. I loved this ride from last year. And originally signed up for the 48-mile ride. I had also unwittingly signed up to work that evening. argh. I wanted to do both, so I opted to do the 30-mile ride instead so that I could have time to go home, change, and go to work. At first, I was having some doubts as to whether this was a good idea. Was it worth it to drive all the way to Warrenton, VA for a 30-mile ride? I was feeling a little stiff ...

I thought I was prepared. I was wrong. One cannot simply ride this route whenever one chooses and then claim to have ridden PBP. PBP is more than a bike ride. PBP is an entire region of France coming out to welcome and support a diverse collection of worldwide adventurers. PBP is a moment in time. PBP takes place outside of time.

With the climbfest Boston 400K on the calendar for the next weekend, I thought it would be a good idea to get in a hilly 200K to test my heart monitor controlled pace on a more challenging route and, hopefully get in safety 200K to keep my monthly streak alive. Suburban Cycling: December 2012

http://melaniesuzanne.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html

Monday, December 31, 2012. Living in the present is difficult for me as I'm constantly evaluating the past so I can use that experience to improve the future. A year ago today, I reached a goal that I'd thought impossible: I rode the nearly 46 mile round trip from my home to the western trail head of the W&OD trail. Flexed connections by busting a delivery driver for aggressive driving and received an apology from the regional director and a promise of educating area employees. Rode the streets of DC and...

Because Kathy had called me a "ringer", a few women asked me more about my bikes and my opinion on what would be good for them. I pretty much echoed Kathy's suggestion that they borrow a bike from a friend and test ride lots of bikes to see what felt good to them. While I LOVE my hybrid, that doesn't mean they'd love it as well. June 4, 2013 at 3:39 PM. I grew up with a fostered lov...

Friday, November 25, 2016. I can honestly say that I've never camped in November until this year. We were pleasantly surprised by the Michigan weather this fall and were able to squeeze out one last camping weekend. Tuesday, January 27, 2009. A Night at the Movies. I love watching movies in Turkey. It's so much better than in the States. In fact, I really don't even enjoy going to the movies in the States now after my cinema experiences here. There are really only 2 differences, but they are very crucial differences. 2 This is really my favorite difference. Intermission in every movie! Thursday, January 22, 2009. Cromulent Thoughts

Friday, April 3, 2015. Do You Understand His Understatement? In the story of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, there are numerous parts that we focus on. That we discuss. That we study. That we take to heart. But I feel that there is one section of this narrative that we fail to consider, and it may be one of the most important aspects of the entire process. When Jesus is brought before Pilate, the governor asks, "Are you the King of the Jews? Before Christ's death and resurrection can have its full...

Wage a Worthy War for Humanity. I’ll admit; every time I hear the words white privilege I cringe. I cringe for a variety of reasons, namely anything that groups a population of people together just based on the color of their skin causes skepticism and I am cautious. How can you lump an entire group’s experience based on just color alone? How can the color of my skin automatically correlate me to a privileged existence? Posted by M. Welker.
