A woman, on her soapbox. When going to the gym feels like going back to high school. March 20, 2016. March 20, 2016. For all I know, this is the next big thing in fitness attire. I’ll never know! Some are just chilling out, waiting for the class to start. Style is open to interpretation – attire ranges from rainbow running tights and Kmart singlets (me, no surprises there), to faded old Bon Jovi tour shirts with last season’s footy shorts. But I have so many questions for them. For example, how do th...

A woman, on her soapbox. Fuck you, Mummy Wars! October 28, 2016. Before about my feelings about the “Mummy Wars”- basically, I think they’re shite. For some reason, at a time when we should be building each other up, the media seems hell bent on pitting us against each other. And it clearly works, given the amount of nasty and snarky comments I read from hot-headed keyboard warriors in the aftermath. This week, the social medias were awash with mummy war inducing tripe. Yet we keep going back for more.

A woman, on her soapbox. October 29, 2015. October 29, 2015. No f#%ks were given. Not this day, not ever. I have a tendency towards profanity. I’m quite fond of a good swear word. I manage to drop a few expletives into at least one sentence every day. I see no harm in the occasional “F” bomb. Truthfully, I have no issue with the odd “S” and “C” bomb either. To me, they are just words. And I make no apologies about this. Shit It happens. Bae. 6) Any derogatory word that labels a person by their religion&#...

A woman, on her soapbox. The “Me Time” Problem. October 4, 2016. October 4, 2016. Recently, I have noticed a number of articles imploring women to slow down. Take “me time”. Sit back, and smell the roses. It appears that, now that we have told everyone that women can “have it all”, we have discovered that having it all is exhausting. So what do we do? How do we deal with the lack of me time? 8220;Me time” is important, and I am sure that most people would take it if they could. Unfortunately it...Yes, it...

A woman, on her soapbox. September 28, 2016. I have fake boobs. Pauses for dramatic effect]. I grew up surrounded by well endowed female adults. On top of that, I was a reasonably solid build. So I took it for granted that I too would hit that magical, awful, awkward stage of puberty, and come out of it somewhat unscathed, and sporting a fabulous pair of my own knockers. But the damn things wouldn’t grow. I was not a late bloomer. Neck, as long as it alluded to the illusion of breast tissue. I mean, it d...

Friday, November 25, 2016. I can honestly say that I've never camped in November until this year. We were pleasantly surprised by the Michigan weather this fall and were able to squeeze out one last camping weekend. It was hard to find a campground open at this time of year, but luckily Sterling State Park in my hometown of Monroe, Michigan was still open for one more weekend. I cannot believe that another camping season has come to a close! Site 31 at Sterling State Park in Monroe, MI. Harrison Lake is ...

Tuesday, January 27, 2009. A Night at the Movies. I love watching movies in Turkey. It's so much better than in the States. In fact, I really don't even enjoy going to the movies in the States now after my cinema experiences here. There are really only 2 differences, but they are very crucial differences. 2 This is really my favorite difference. Intermission in every movie! Thursday, January 22, 2009. He Saved a Wretch Like Me. Yesterday I prayed that I wouldn't complain about things I "need" or want.

Friday, April 3, 2015. Do You Understand His Understatement? In the story of Christ's crucifixion and resurrection, there are numerous parts that we focus on. That we discuss. That we study. That we take to heart. But I feel that there is one section of this narrative that we fail to consider, and it may be one of the most important aspects of the entire process. When Jesus is brought before Pilate, the governor asks, "Are you the King of the Jews? Before Christ's death and resurrection can have its full...

Wage a Worthy War for Humanity. I’ll admit; every time I hear the words white privilege I cringe. I cringe for a variety of reasons, namely anything that groups a population of people together just based on the color of their skin causes skepticism and I am cautious. How can you lump an entire group’s experience based on just color alone? How can the color of my skin automatically correlate me to a privileged existence? Posted by M. Welker. A woman, on her soapbox. Dear childless person who made a snarky comment about the “special privileges” I receive…. December 1, 2016. I get that maternity leave might seem like a holiday for you. It did for me too, until I actually took ten months off work to be the primary carer for my first screaming small person. She suffered from silent reflux, like many little babies do, so she screamed from sunup to sundown. She also screamed periodically from sundown to sunup, and that kid was. The rebate. I a...

Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Yes Sherman, there is a "Wayback" Machine! After a late night attempt to work on my blog / scrapbook several years of posts were deleted due to technical error. This caused much agita as there seemed to be no "undo" available. A search for a solution ensued, and after checking Google for cached information, a partial solution was found -. I managed to find several posts in other places and the most useful resource was when I discovered the "Wayback" Machine. Look What Flew In.
