mostly about beer......: London Craft Beer Festival 2016
https://mostlyaboutbeer.blogspot.com/2016/08/london-craft-beer-festival-2016.html
Wednesday, 17 August 2016. London Craft Beer Festival 2016. How the LCBF knocked me sideways. On Saturday evening I decided to go online and book a ticket for the London Craft Beer Festival at the Oval Space in Hackney. I hadn’t planned to do this but got tempted by seeing the brochure of someone who’d just come back from it. I intended write a pros and cons assessment of this festival against the GBBF but that’s not possible - they’re not remotely comparable. I love the thought that’s gone into th...

Wednesday, 17 August 2016. Beauty within and without. It’s just the name I don’t like. It’s too contrived. The Old Gasworks would’ve been better. I came here to experience the London Craft Beer Festival - just follow this sentence. I hadn’t counted on the awe of the Oval Space. I’ve tramped up and down Mare Street many times completely unaware of the sleeping giant in the neighbourhood. I can imagine sacrificial offerings being made under its steel struts at the winter solstice. I’m not sure of the...

Tuesday, 31 May 2016. Albion: the last days of May. The swifts have been arcing across the blue vault with their shrill screams for a while now. A prelude to Summer is temporarily passing through St Albans. Thunder and lightning had been forecast for Saturday but never followed up on their threat. This bank holiday weekend saw a modest splurge of seasonal events - only some of which I managed to attend. This short post documents enough to give just a flavour of St Albans at the end of this May. One thing...

Tuesday, 28 June 2016. Mass Observation 113: 27.06.16. The Boot, St Albans. The tapered blue and gold flags hanging from the bar represent St Albans. I first read about mass observation when I read Austerity Britain by David Kynaston. People were interviewed following the end of the Second World War as Britain tried to pick up and move on from were it left off five years previously. 60 years on, beer writers Boak and Bailey are hosting a mass observation about pubs. Over the Bar - Tring Brewery (Herts).
mostly about beer......: that Fuller's feeling 2
https://mostlyaboutbeer.blogspot.com/2016/08/that-fullers-feeling-2.html
Sunday, 21 August 2016. That Fuller's feeling 2. Fuller’s Imperial Stout (bottle conditioned 10.7%). This is the only beer I bought from this year’s Great British Beer Festival at Olympia in west London. It was brewed with the help of journalist and consultant Melissa Cole. She’s been very helpful to the brewery; Oliver’s Island - their light golden hoppy staple on the bar top (now that Chiswick bitter’s been relegated to being a seasonal) was also an ale made with her collaboration. I can’t say as...

mostly 80's | the music of my life
The music of my life. The 30th anniversary is approaching…. April 9, 2014. The 30th anniversary of. However, I was a fan before the movie, but after this-. Prince… I wanted his wardrobe – I couldn’t understand how a man could dress like that and be so sexy…. And I wanted a white guitar… (can’t play a lick). Unapologetic with his self-expression… so raw, so real…. I have much more to say, but all I do now is share the soundtrack, like we really need to be reminded…. 1 “Let’s Go Crazy”. 8220;17 Days”.

Time at the swamp. July 21, 2012. 8211; Hi, I was thinking about the Saturday-thing and I was thinking… Why the hell not, let’s do it, should I take anything special with me? At the trail there’s a small memorial stone of some poor who obviously died during the Civil war. The Antifa-movement is never far away and we found this card and a decayed flower bouquet at the stone. Pay attention to the tin can filled with wine. Although Lauri doesn’t smoke that much I got a shitloads of pictures about him ...
mostly about beer......
Tuesday, 30 August 2016. The pores of your skin dilate from the lurid heat. The way the light in the evening sends people’s shadows spilling across the ground, you’d expect to see a mushroom cloud on the horizon. God it’s hot. When summer gives over to autumn in this country, it’s the sun’s last stand. Over the past few weeks we’ve witnessed its nuclear core in its final charge. It’s going over the top. My own leaning is in favour of Oakham Ales but the two halves I had from Titanic did give the Stafford...

Mostly about beer……. A blog about beer – drinking it, writing it, reading it, loving it. Harvest Pale – the gateway beer. About a week ago I scanned the beer engines in a local and decided to have a pint of Harvest Pale from Castle Rock Brewery. This beer was awarded the Champion Beer of Britain by CAMRA in 2010 – roughly the time I started nurturing a serious interest in beer. It’s only after this initial introduction that an old school sweat returns; the humulone spritz segues into the warm greasy past...

Monday, February 9, 2015. Engine Cover Sound Deadening. The Albin Ballad engine lives in an enclosed fibreglass box under the cockpit floor. The lid is a two part affair that seals against the engine bay pan. The forward section holds the companionway stairs, with a small storage box on top. Both sections are tied down, and together, with rubber hood latches. My latest project has been to reduce some of the noise coming through the engine box housing the Yanmar 2GMF 20 Diesel. As an installation guide.
