Mt Juliet | Anna's training adventures
https://trainingadventures.wordpress.com/2014/09/04/mt-juliet
Anna's training adventures. Some of the stupid things I do). 5ish months pregnant, and I thought I had one more mountain in me for the year. I thought I’d do something with a well defined track, something that didn’t involve bush bashing, and something relatively short. So last week I had a day free and I thought Mt Juliet would fit the requirements. If you’re reading this and you’ve done Mt Juliet, I can hear you laughing. Sometimes the path was just a bunch of fallen down trees and slippery bark. How t...

Folly in the outdoors: A French Island Holiday
http://ian-folly.blogspot.com/2015/02/a-french-island-holiday.html
Folly in the outdoors. Bushwalks, climbs and rambling. Wednesday, 11 February 2015. A French Island Holiday. Imagine spending a sunny afternoon cycling around a French Island. Sounds pleasant. The French Island in question, however, isn’t in the Mediterranean but in Westernport. It doesn’t have wine and croissants but mosquitos and snakes (or so I was told). Stash of insect repellent handy, probably two or three, he informed us. As he rummaged around he also chatted about snakes. The general store and po...

Folly in the outdoors: August 2013

Folly in the outdoors. Bushwalks, climbs and rambling. Wednesday, 14 August 2013. Time spent in trees. My latest adventure didn’t take me very far from home – only into the back yard in fact. It all started because the grass was getting a wee bit long and it had actually stopped raining long enough for me to consider getting the mower out. The grass was still a little damp but I noticed a number of birds fluttering about and decided to get my camera and try to get a few shots. Ever played Angry Birds?

Folly in the outdoors. Bushwalks, climbs and rambling. Sunday, 20 July 2014. This isn't really relevant to anything much, certainly nothing to do with hiking or even being outside. But it's maybe the scariest thing I do - get on stage in front of a real, live audience. Luckily, they were friendly. Here's a YouTube link. PS I'm the one on the left with the harmonica. Thursday, 10 July 2014. Five Mile Beach, Wilsons Promontory. And so, with one whole litre of precious water, we headed off. Eventually we ha...

Folly in the outdoors: April 2014

Folly in the outdoors. Bushwalks, climbs and rambling. Friday, 4 April 2014. To Bogong or not to Bogong . Having never stood on the summit of Mt Bogong in my many years of hiking and back-country skiing I decided it was about time. I planned a three day excursion – a day to climb up, a day at Cleve Cole Hut to recover and check out the local sights, and a day to clamber back down to the car. The first question my wife asked was “Who are you going with? 8221; Hmm. the plan was. The problem was resolved by...

Folly in the outdoors: September 2013

Folly in the outdoors. Bushwalks, climbs and rambling. Monday, 9 September 2013. Little River Falls, Cathedral Range State Park. If there was an accident, calling for help wasn’t on. We live locally and know the SES crews. Calling for help ourselves if something went wrong, being rescued and having the sad story in the local paper, would have been too embarrassing to contemplate. Besides, there wasn’t any phone reception. Only eight kilometres of road walking in front of us and we would be done. I love h...
